Yes, "kansasatv" and "boblheadjesus" I would very much appreciate you looking at the emission's tag on the swing arm for the engine family and importer that imported it, along with listed displacement. Also under the shifter there should be 2 numbers like 171FMM and *xxxxxx* serial number.

Also it would be a great help if you could count the teeth on the rear sprocket along with the front sprocket, as I am wondering if they all come with 15/40 combo. The front sprocket cover is just 2 "8mm" bolts, and takes five minutes. It has been my experience that the Taotao 250 D comes geared too high and has no low end power and causes stalling when taking off in first gear or reverse. If you are having this problem with it stalling at low speeds, a temporary fix that helps is to lower rear tire pressure to about 5-7 psi and that will help give you a little more low end power.

OK, just got in from work and went and checked my quad. Engine family is 7VCOX.250AM5 Imported by Vicoo Ind. at 230cc displacement.

On the engine under the shifter was stamped LC163FML and FZO68859

It does have the 15 tooth sprocket on the front with 40 on the back, gonna have to change that hehe.

 

Thanks a lot for the info "boblhedjesus", my emission's tag on my Taotao says the exact same 7VOX.250AM5 and Vicoo Ind with a 230cc. Under the shifter mine says 171FMM and has a FZxxxxxx serial number. I am beginning to believe some kid over in China is just putting random numbers on these things ! Does yours look like any of these official Loncin engines below.......?

slydog my loncin engine looks exactly the same as your engine in your pictures but i have not had a chance to get the numbers off of it yet

Will be interested to hear what part number your engine is, as the engine "boblhedjesus" has shows to be a 197cc engine with a 63mm bore and 62mm stroke and says the same thing on the emissions tag as my 171FMM engine Taotao. Take a look at the head bolts as some 171FMM engines have LLL on the head bolts indicating Lifan, but mine which I believe is Zongshen has nothing on the head bolts.

Going by your numbers LC163FM1 that should be a Loncin 197cc engine installed on your Taotao 250 D. I guess all of these Taotao 250 D ATV's are not created equal or the numbers mean absolutely nothing because my 171FMM should be a 229cc engine. Thanks a lot for checking kansasatv, it's good to know that it can be different from one model to another.

that is kind of weird i was just looking at the pictures of your atv and my engine looks exactly the same it just has loncin printed on it, that little plate that is on the left side with the four bolts i have that to it just says loncin on it

 

What about your emissions tag, does it say 7VCOX.250AM5 Imported by Vicoo Ind. at 230cc displacement ? My 12-2007 model Taotao 250 D says the same thing on the emissions tag and says 230cc but has the 171FMM engine which should be 229cc at 71mmx58mm bore and stroke. Mine even says to run 92 octane or HIGHER !
