I'd take the air cleaner off right where is bolts to the carb. I just bought a used Hi-Bird and brought it home, the carb wasn't adjusted right and when I checked the air filter there was a puddle of gasoline in it. There could be multiple causes, but get the air cleaner off first and try to see whats going on.

I am not that knowledgeable on the newer carbs and injections as they are now. I am going on guessing and misguessing. I know carbs from 40 years ago which is a different animal but similar .

This to me sounds like a good start . Trial and error and deductions if you dont have a mechanic close to call.
