Used, but seems to be great shape otherwise. Once you load it, it seems to be fine. No slipping, etc. Is the nature of the beast? To keep it from running away in gear? I just don't like and believe it will get in trouble sooner or later. Should I just order a clutch and belt? Rebuild + belt?

Sorry, you miss understood me or I didn't make myself clear. It's not running away at idle, and seems to be idling at good speed, but has to turn up approx. 200 rpm's before the clutch engages-- after that it's fine. My KFX 700 responds immediately to the throttle, but will sit still forever in gear. Is this machine capable of this?

LT80,
I know when I thought my sons 90cc was idiling to high it actually wasn't. What I preceived as a decent idel speed/sound was actually lower than what the recomended range. The only true way is to get a tach right? dumpmoyers this might be the same in your case.
Just my 2 cents
