Used to be you could get a Taiwan made smaller quad for a decent price. Quality was higher than the Chinese made models. A couple of the major manufacturers figured that out and started selling the Taiwan made versions with their plastic and logos. Now they're both about the same price.

So just keep that in mind when if you decide on that Can am. It's "made to our specs" is what I've been told on the ds250. 250cc and below (for Can am) are all rebadges.

Fascinating that his 1 other post was a link to a parts web site. Either a dealer or???

haha i happen to agree w/ everybody on here so far. me and my buddy work on these for people all the time. there cdi booxes go out all the time and they cost like 1/4 of the quad and the carbs go bad very fast. they say there clone engines but there nothing like a name brand!</end quote></div>

i disagee parts are really cheap for the chines quads, here's a couple of prices on e-bay. these prices are from the dealer called chinesemotorparts.

cdi for 50-110cc $8.95
cdi for 150cc $9.95
cdi for 200-300cc $19.95

carburetors

50-125cc 19mm manual choke $22.95
150cc gy-6 $49.95 i've seen them else where on e-bay for as little as $35.00
250cc $49.95

now compare these prices with any major brand dealer
i randomly choose a 1985 honda atc , these prices are from bikebandit.com

carburetors

atc110 $202.67
atc 200 $185.36
atc 250$ $262.83

this year quad looks like it still use points and not a cdi ignition system

I mentioned all this in another thread, but I'll reiterate it here....

My main concern for chinese quads is availability in a year or two. I buy with confidence from manufacturers that have decades of history behind them. Chinese ATV's may or may not be around in a couple years. Then what?

Even the big name brands like Can Am, Husqvarna, etc have come and gone at times in the off road market. Nothing worse than buying something only to find out the company stopped making machines, or went totally belly up the next year. Cannondale is a prime example of what I'm talking about.

With politics being what they are, China is also a dicey market. Japan has most of a century of peace and prosperity (and good relations with the US) to draw on, whereas Chinese imports may become targets for economic sanctions if China doesn't stop selling weapons to the enemies of the US, stop using virtual slave labor to build things, etc.

Whatever priority you place on those factors personally are your opinion and I won't cast aspursions over it. But the US is a fickle customer and China is not a country that oozes stability in it's relations with us. If China keeps tossing ICBM test missiles over Japan, or cracks down on Hong Kong for whatever reason- you could see a major shift in our trade conditions with them.

Just a consideration.

I bought one of those 110cc little jobbies for my grandson. For 500 bucks, including shipping and tax, it's a great little one for him to learn on. He comes out on weekends and i get him to run thru some shallow mud holes and we rip around out in the pasture, hayfields etc. The thing has run great for many hours, has the throttle hold back set to max open and it never skips a beat. They are useless in cutlines, etc mainly because it's just too low on the ground clearance. For the hours of fun we've had with it, it's worth the bucks. We all know not to expect a Honda, Yamaha or Kawi for that money but as far as i'm concerned, small price to pay so the younguns can join in.

TheSollyLama, Ive been in china for over 2 weeks now.. no kids working. no slaves..

When were you here?

"IF" they are slaves they are much happier being slaves than the average "free" american. People here can quit a job just like all the ones I quit in the US. I quit a bunch of them working the last 32 or so years.

I'll leave this post but save your future political comments for the Bill Oreily Forum. Just so you know Im as big of a God Fearing, Right Wing Conservative as they come.

China's market is going to stay stable unless all the Walmarts are going to close. And just about every tourist trap in the US.

What is going on in the atv market now, is very similar to the minibike boom in the late 60's, early 70's.
