new chinese atv won't start
#1
The new chinese ATA-125D kids atv I bought from xtremefirepower.com won't start nor will the headlights work. I checked the plugs & they seem fine.
A full charged battery got the brake light, Neutral & Reverse lights & theft alarm to work.
I removed tha battery & checked the leads for continuity - the strange thing is that there was continuity not only in the ignition ON position but also in the OFF position & even when I pulled the key out there was continuity.
Could this be a grounding problem? where would I start looking ?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated since I have 2 very disappointed kids waiting to ride this machine.
My emails & voicemails 2 days ago to the dealer have gone unanswered.
Thanks

2 questions.. does it crank over at all? does it have spark? If it cranks over... pull the spark plug and re connect it to the plug. Crank the starter over while holding the end of the spark plug to the side of the engine. You should see a blue spark jump the gap at the end of the spark plug. If not i would start by getting a NGK C7HSA sparkplug and trying again.

make sure the brakes are on when trying to start quad, if you have both F&R it's usally the rear brake, also if you have a left handle bar brake lever their's two wires going to it , they're for the rear brake light and a safety switch, make sure they're still plugged in, after that then take out the spark plug and check for spark.

luvmysxs: it's amazing how far some basic knowledge will get you-it was the rear brake & safety switch that did it! Thanks a million.
The machine runs fine - needs a little carb. fine tuning. soon as I replace the now destroyed rubber carb. overflow/drain hose that happened to be touching the block!
I wish the chinese manufacturers posted some basic assembly & operating instructions - imagine the increase in sales they would have.
mywifesquad: I'll take your advise & put in a better plug & changeout the cheap shipping oil as well.
Again, thanks - you have made a couple of kids very very happy.
