Hope somebody can help? I have a Chinese v-bike 250 Im having problems with charging my battery. The quad does not have a charging system on the bike. the battery is about 20%, when i put the battery on a 1.5 trickle charger it wont take a charge. Ive tried a new charger, ive tried 2 new batteries! The new batteries will charge once, when the new batteries need charged again, they still wont charge! Can somebody help me please? Disgusted !

Are they freezing? A deeply discharged battery can fairly easily freeze. A frozen battery will often not take a charge. Once it is warmed up a bit (Brought inside), it should charge properly.

Silly question, but you did add electrolyte (aka battery acid) to the new batteries, right?

If you can, check the electrolyte level in the batteries - it should at least be covering the plates. Most powersport & motorcycle batteries will have 2 horizontal lines on them near the top. These lines are the minimum and maximum fill lines. If the fluid in any cell is lower than the bottom line, you will need to add distilled water to bring it up to the upper line.

Thanks for getting back to me! The quad is kept indoors in a heated garage, so i dont think they would be freezing. The electrolyte level is good. When i bought the batteries new i added it to the 3 batteries that i bought. I did try charging each one of them with the battery connected to the bike and not connected. I thought for sure charging the battery of the bike would work! But the light on the charger doesnt show that its charging. I would leave it charging for a few hours and it still didnt show on the charger that it was charging. The battery was still was only at 20 percent charged! Anymore ideas that you can offer? Thanks i hope to hear from you again.

Thanks

Actually the V4S has a charging system. The stator has two different coil windings, one for the ignition and one for the charging system.

If the fan is working when the engine is running, on the V4S, then your charging system is putting out. I found this the hard way, tracing wiring when I had no charging outout. The problem just turned out to be a bad connection in one of the electrical connectors that went to the voltage regulator. Turns out that the fan runs soley off the charging stator.

As far as your battery I'm not sure what to tell ya. I have two V4S ATV's and both of them have the orignal gel batteries that are working fine after ten months. If you are replacing the batteries with the Chinese batteries that have electrlite in them stop, those batteies are junk. Go to Wally World, AKA Walmart, and bye a battery for about $25. Fill the battery with the provided electrolite. Then let the battery sit for about an hour before charging it. After the hour is up put the new battery on a slow 2 amp charge for about five hours. After this you should have a great battery that will last you, provided you leave it on a milli amp trickle charger when in storage for a week or more.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for getting back to me . I did get the batteries new from wally world and once i charged it the very first time it was fine! After that forget it! Then I went and bought another new 1.5 amp trickle charger thought i might be the charger and it still wouldnt charge the battery. I guess ill have to try and take it to someone. Thanks for trying to help! If you can think of anything else please get back to me. Thanks again

Why do you think the battery is at 20%? Is it possible that it is fully charged?

Have you checked any fuses in the atv?

Are you POSITIVE that the outlet (The wall power outlet) is working? Sometimes a GFI breaker on another outlet down the line will stop that one from working. Try plugging in a lamp from your house to make sure that the outlet works. Make sure that the breaker in your house is not tripped. I have done this before...with the GFI thing...

I never thought o even look at the Outlet. Duh! My outlets do have a gfi at the end. a I did try the battery from two different outlets and still not charging. Ill check that out. I do remember that when i hooked up the battery charger the green light came on the charger telling me that it was charged. I did check the battery with a voltage meter and it showed 3.3 on the meter. Thats why i figured it was about 20% charged.
But i will check out the outlet . Ill let you know what happens ! Thanks for your time, I appreciate you getting back to me!

When I connect my charger to my battery, it shows power without being connected to the wall (Getting its power from the battery), but it obviously will not charge unless I connect the cord to the wall.

On the GFI thing, at my previous house, I've had outlets on different floors not function because the outlet upstairs was tripped. It depends on how they are connected. Builders will sometimes hook a few outlets onto a GFI outlet to protect them all. In my new house, I even have several GFI circuit breakers in the fuse panel - they are pretty easy to trip!

When you say 3.3, do you mean 3.3 volts???

When my two battery's ran down from cold weather and not being used I tried the trickle charges that came with them. They did not charge up. I put my variable 50 amp charger on it and they charged up. So far they are doing fine. Since the headlights work when it's running I assume they are being charged when we use them.

Walmart sells an awsome little battery charger for about $18. The charger has a max charge output of two amps and tapers off to way less than an amp, trickle charge, for maintaining the battery during storage. The charger is fully automatic so no worries of forgetting about it.

The name is Battery Companion. I have two of them and leave them plugged in all the time when the ATVs are not in use.
