Lt80 recoil starter help.

Need some help with the LT80 recoil starter. I put a new gear on it but it still not work. Gear had a broken ring that would not let the clip stay on. I pull but the gear will not engage, any ideas?

found the problem. I was putting the clip on backwards not letting the gear come out.
