Wow guys! You're really beating me up about my son's age. Believe me when I say his safety is first and foremost. I know the age restrictions that are posted on the quads. My 12 year old has a 250 utility and he is always monitored by an adult and is a very good rider. My 6 year can ride well too. Naturally the 250 is too big for him but trust me he's a good rider. It'll be governed down to suit his abilities. He'll have the proper gear on as well. As mentioned before he sat comfortly on the 80 with his knees bent. He wasn't stretching at all to reach the pegs. We have a lot of open land to ride on and I'm always with them. I really do appreciate your concern for my children.

P.S. I'm 6 foot 8 almost 300 lbs. So you can guess that my kids are above average.

Mr. bigntall1, please take no offence. We're just concerned. Understand that we see some real dangerous situations at times where the adult has no clue and mighty combative about it. We really have a beat-up session w/them.
You indeed did your homework and I know we all congradulate you on your wisdom and concerns with your son.
I know your son will have a great time.

Thanks LT80. No I take no offense to it. I understand completely and meant what I said about really appreciating your concern. I'm glad this site has knowlegable experienced riders who cares for the safety of others first.

Thanks again.

I got my 10yo son a raptor 90 today. He has been on a lt 50 since he was 4. I bought him a used breeze but it turned out to be a big piece of crap, any how it was really to big for him. I let my wife ride it whenever she wants to ride with us. I am going to pass the lt 50 down to my 3yo son. I have not let him leave the green grass yard with it yet and really I always walk with him when he is on it. He has a lot to learn so no chance in turning him loose with it yet. The salesman at my local dealer told me they were going to change the atv size / age restrictions. Instead of going by age they were going to go by weight. Dont know if this is a true fact or not but its what I herd.

Hey Bigntall,
My boys started on their Lt80's at ages 3 1/2 and 5 years old. I rode motocross all my life until I got into quads. Going through the process of riding with your kids or even an inexperienced rider is a must. The reason all these young riders have accidents, is that they don't have any explanation of riding. Their told where the gas and brake are and thats about it. Kids don't have any fear of these machines until its too late. They just see it as a new fun toy. Spend time showing him/her what can happen when off camber, hills, or corning too fast.(just to name a few) We all had to learn how to ride at some point in time, and learning the right way to begin with, is the only way to teach your kids. Kids are sponges when it comes to learning and do pick it up quick. But, do remember, monkey see, monkey do !!!
Good luck and enjoy, cause they grow up way too fast.

Just wanted to let you guys know that I got the 2008 Yamaha Grizzly 80 this past weekend and my son is very happy. He rode it a little bit on Saturday but not as much as he wanted to because it was late when we got home and it got dark pretty quick. It's governed down pretty low. It's just about at the speed when it's time to switch to second gear. On the video clip he's in 1st so if it sounds like it needs shifting then that's why. Later I put it in second for him and see how it was. I think it's a little better in second gear where the governer is. Anyway here's a clip of his first ride. Since it was late we just let him run it a little around the house.

Dura,

Keep us posted on the Raptor 90, and how it performs. I haven't heard much about them since they are new, but they do look bad-azz, hopefully it runs as good as it looks.
