As I said in my first post I am putting the engine on racing go kart so I dont see a need for the safety mechanisms. And for the "external ignition box"im not sure what it is actually called but the box where the spark plug.wire plugs into, im just not exactly sure how it is that it works.

Re: Ignition system

The spark plug is driven from the ignition coil. The ignition coil is driven from the CDI module (CDI is an acronym for Capacitive Discharge Ignition). The CDI must be powered also - which can be either from 12 volts DC or moderately high voltage AC from the stator depending on which version CDI you have. They are not interchangeable. If your wiring calls for a DC powered CDI then you need a DC powered CDI (and vice versa). You also need kill switch circuitry to turn the engine off - especially if the CDI is AC powered. And of course you need the trigger signal from the stator pickup coil to the CDI to tell it when to fire the plug through the ignition coil.

All of the above must be present, wired correctly, and functioning properly or you will not have spark. You cannot bypass any of these parts. They are all needed, and work together to form the complete ignition system.

Re: Bypassing Safety Circuitry:

All the safety wiring does is make sure you can't start up your machine in gear and drive into somebody or something accidently. This is done by preventing the starter from turning unless the brakes are applied and/or the clutch is pulled in. What is so bad about that?

In any case (from your first post) you've apparently already done that. The starter solenoid goes "click", so that says the safety lockouts have been satisfied. If the starter doesn't turn when the solenoid is clicked in then that is another problem unrelated to any safety wiring.

Re: What are you trying to do...

I still don't know what you are trying to do. Yeah, I know you are putting another engine onto your go-kart. Great. But are you trying to adapt the existing go-kart wiring to the quad engine, or adapt the existing quad wiring to the go-cart chassis? Do you have any wiring harness at all? Do you have all the very necessary ancillary parts that go along with an engine such as all the ignition components, voltage regulator, etc.?

I'm willing to help in any way I can, but I need a lot more info so I can know just what you are trying to accomplish...
