Default Oklahoma ATV Law Verification

I stopped in at Steve's Wholesale in south OKC today to look at their ATVs for my 8 year old and the salesman told me that there was a new Oklahoma law as of January that made it illegal for anyone under 13 to ride an ATV due to the amount of deaths involved for that age range. He said that they could take the vehicle if caught. I can't find any verification of his info on the internet except for one article about lead poisoning. Please assist. Thanks

I will let you know on Friday as I am headed up to Oklahoma for a Spring Break to camp and ride with my kids and wife at Lake Murray State Park.

I think the sales guy is confused. Right now they can't sell the smaller quads/dirtbikes due to the lead issue (which is a crock of $h!T - if I find my kids chewing on their ATV or dirt bike, they will have to be more worried about removing my boot from their behind than any damage from lead based paint -but I digress)...

As far as I know, there is no law stopping kids from riding ones that they already have - getting parts or buying a new one is an issue currently. If Oklahoma has that law, then we will be turning around and heading to a riding area in Texas....

The only thing that I can find is this:

and this

http://www.oksenate.gov/news/p...2007/pr20070403d.html

And this relates to helmets for kids under 18 but my kids always wear helmets. And I think there has always been a law for helmets in OK for kids....

So that's all I can find....

Okay I spent all last week at Lake Murray State Park in Ardmore OK. Plenty of kids riding atvs and dirtbikes including my 6 and 9 year olds.

I spoke with the park manager and asked about the supposed law and he said the only ones that he was aware or an enforced was that there is no double riding unless the ATV came equipped from the factory for passengers and kids under 18 had to wear helmets.

I spoke to a park ranger and he stated the same thing.

We had an excellent time BTW!!
