Another lt80 clutch question
#1
I have a 99 lt80. The machine runs great. The problem is this. My neighbor and I both have the exact same bike. They are equal in speed and bottom end. We are both interested in some more power (moore power preferable) but that will come soon. Anyway, I took apart both clutches and the rollers are a little flat on all of them. I ordered them today. The main question I have is this. I would like to drill the shoes to the recommeded 180 grams but the shoes are used. Does this matter? There is still about 1/8 inch left on them. Is there another value I should be using or is the 180 grams for new shoes only? Second, The drum has very small grooving going all the way around the drum. The shoes have the same grooving going on them as well. Is this going to impact the performance or can I get by till the end of the season? Does the drum need to be replaced or can it be turned like a rotor? Also, would like to clarify the NO grease issue when reinstalling the rollers. Oh yeah, I also heard to leave out some rollers? Is this true and what are the benefits. Sorry for all the questions. Just another guy wanting to get the edge on my neighbor.
Thanks...

Your shoes are fine.
Don't turn the drum. You should carefully/lightly sand the rear pads to remove the glaze. A 60 grit and lil circular motions works.
Removing 2 rollers will help the holeshot but may decrease the top end. Some like it, some don't.

depending on your size I would leave the rollers. I found that the 180 gram shoes worked better with my slim 300lbs build. but give it a try. the rear shoes and mill the head and you will beet the crap out of his stocker.
