Default Eton 50 won't start

I am having a difficult time getting my eton 50 to start. It has a spark, compression and a functioning carb. I can not even get it to spudder when spraying starter fluid thru the carb. Could it be a stuck exhaust valve? Need some help....my daughter is running out of patience.

three things you need to run is fuel, spark, and compression. If you have compression the valve is not stuck. If you have spark, then the problem is fuel. there may be fuel getting to the combustion chamber but is it the right air fuel ratio? Is the starter cranking over fast enough to start? How long has this bike been sitting? If the starting fluid is not working you may not have spark.

Not sure about the fuel ratio? I am assuming it is getting fuel because there is a gas vapor that will drift back out of the carb after cranking. It has been sitting for a couple years before I got it. I did drain the old fuel out and clean the carb. It must be a fuel issue because i have seen the spark and the compression guage.

When you say "clean the carb" what does that really mean? Not trying to sound harsh at all. If it sat for a couple years with any gas in the carb at all then I would say you have a varnish issue. If you didn't take the carb completely apart and soak everything to remove the varnish then I would guess there is still something clogged in the carb.

You actually need one more thing than fuel, spark, compression (on any engine)....and that is air. Air intake...don't know about your specific quad but maybe something to check.

Good luck, pls post your findings. A lot of these threads just seem to die off.

Actually there are four things needed to run- fuel, spark, compression and proper timing.

Have you put in a new spark plug? What color is the spark? What is the compression at?

Even if you see spark, that doesn't mean it is strong enough to run. Put a new, properly gapped plug in and see if that helps.

yeah with what cuoffroad said, sitting awhile does damage. lol on mine i just thought the carb would be good spraying the stuff in there while on the quad. nope. lol. no gas would flow through. so i ripped the carb off and took the plunge and cleaned it right, then everything worked fine.

now i just need to figure out why i'm not getting spark.....lol!

There is a screw for the fuel/air mixture on the carb. Turn it in until it stops and then back it out about 1 1/4 turns. That carb is pretty specific about what it likes.
