So what is the recommended ratio? 50:1? 40:1?

LTA 50, not sure of the year.

I run 32:1 with a good synthetic oil.

Thanks LT!

Any way to determine the year on these things by the vin? I don't see any other tags.

Yes, the VIN contains a letter or number that would indicate the year.
Your local dealer should be able to look that up in a heart beat.

Thanks again LT!

Mind if I ask another question? The unit I picked up has no restriction in the exhaust but does have the restrictor in the intake manifold. If I remove the intake restrictor, do I need to rejet?

I'd guess no.
Most all mini's are jetted way fat from the factory even after the removal of the restrictors.
Just keep an eye on the plug color.

I was going to send this in a PM LT but I figured someone else may benefit to your reply. IF you're not to tired of me pestering you yet.

So I took the intake restrictor out.

Someone had been in the carb so I went through that. Found only one of the pilot jets in there. Now according to the parts diagram I've seen online, the 2 pilot jets are different lengths. The longer one goes in first and is on the bottom. The shorter one obviously goes in second/on top.

The thing is, It looks like I have only the shorter one. The one that is normally removed when doing this "un-restrict" deal. The carb breather was also capped off. Don't know why, but it may be useful info in diagnosing my issue.

The bike will idle with choke, but dies immediately if I un-choke. Try giving it throttle at all, dies instantly.

Dirty carb right? I can assure you no. It's obviously starving for fuel but that ain't the reason.

You mentioned not thinking I would need a jetting (main) change and I think you're right. But what do you think about this pilot issue? I gotta get the right pilot jet right? And go from there?

I think you need to do a compression test.
I've heard of removing the "1st" pilot jet. I'm unsure of which pilot should be in there. You may be onto something there altho it's made to run with both.......
