Default 1987 lt80 ignition

ok guys. just got the quad, it has sat up for a few years and now i have it. I completely cleaned the carb, flushed the tank, and checked compression. The one thing this little machine doesnt have is fire. Im sorta curious on how to check the ignition system to see if its the coil or magneto plate. maybe i have another issue im unaware of thats causin this. please help me.

the quad is showroom stock, and has been sitting in a shed covered since 2007.

You use a ohm meter to check the stator and coil/cdi.
Sorry, I don't know the proper specs.

i was wondering what the difference was in a 2002 ignition coil and an 87 coil? there is a 100 dollar diffence, the stator coil has the same part number though and the same price

This is one of the 2 or 3 changes they made on LT80's.
The newer ones have a coil and a CDI.
The older ones just had a CDI.

thanks for all the knowledge LT80. i am assuming you mean the cdi would be built into my coil on the 87 that i have. that means the newer models with the separate cdi and coil would not work on my application. I am at a stump here because i dont want to throw away any money and it be the coil or vice versa.

guess the servce manual purchase might be what i need to purchase instead.

Yes, the older ones only had 1 combined CDI/coil.
Newer ones 2. a CDI and a coil.
I think the ohms on the atator should be around 185.

LT80 your knowledge has been very helpful. my stator has 181 ohms and is working when i turn it over at the coil. guess that high dollar part had to be the one that went bad.

thank you very much for your time, im going to be talking with you at a later date on what direction to go with suspension.
