FSN 110 Starting Problem
#1
We recently purchased a Quad for my Grandson, (FSN 110). The previous owner said he could not get it to start, so we practically stole it. We have a good strong battery, hold the brake and push the starter switch (brake light glows)and hear a click in the solenoid. Does this mean we need a new solenoid, or do we have other electrical problems?

Use a meter and measure the following:
1) Measure the DC voltage right on the battery +/- terminals while the solenoid is "clicked" in. It should be above 11.5 volts. What do you measure?
2) Measure the DC voltage from the starter input post right on the starter motor to the frame ground right on the starter. Again do this measurement while attempting to start the quad and the starter solenoid is "clicked" in. You should measure over 11 volts. What do you measure?
If you have the correct voltage at the starter motor then the starter is bad or the engine is frozen.
If you have really low voltage at the starter and good voltage at the battery then your solenoid is bad or the heavy gauge wiring to/from the starter is bad (this includes the heavy gauge ground return wire through the chassis)
Here is another test: Short the two solenoid terminal posts together with a screw driver. Does the starter turn now? If it does it eliminates frozen engine, bad battery, bad connections anywhere else but at the starter solenoid, and bad starter.
