Cool First Bike for 6 YEar Old..... DS50?

Hey everyone..

My 6 yr oid LOVES to ride with me on my machines... Its time for her own..

I got a guy with a 2002 ds50 that looks and runs great down from 700 to 600..

Book value seems to be 700 on this..

Is 6 a good deal?

Is this a good starter bike?

should I just get a Chinese bike for even cheaper?

any other recommendations or info u can give me would be very appreciated

I have 2 Taotao ATA-125D atvs for my 6 and 8 year old. I have had minimal problems with them and the kids love them. They start with the first turn of the starter. Reverse gear is nice too. The 6 year old handles the machine very well. I paid around $720 each which included shipping. Great machine for them to learn the basics. Cheers!

If you weren't sure whether or not she'd like riding, I'd say the chinese brand would be a good investment. Cheap, so if they don't you're not out a lot of money. But it sounds like she's shown a good enough interest to get a better (not chinese) brand. You should be able to find a used lt50 or lt80 for a decent price. Just my opinion, but I'd stay away from the 125's, simply because they're a little bigger. I know my niece (6 yrs old) would have troulbe reaching everything safely. She could reach the controls yes, but safely reaching them is very important.

Also, a note on the ds50. Bought a ds250 for the wife, thinking it was a rotax motor. Noticed it had SYM stamped on it. SYM is one of the bigger Taiwan motor companies. One dealer told me anything under 250cc is made by another (he didn't know the maker) company and rebadged as a CanAm. But he did add it was made to Rotax specs. Never had any maintenance issues from that quad, but was truly disappointed in it's performance.

Started my daughter on a Eton Viper 90. Had throttle adjustment turn down to a 1/4. Only issue was factory chain didn't last. You can find a nice used one cheap.. She was riding it at 7 yrs old.

this 2002 DS 50 I am lookin at is in really nice shape with no problems.. its 600$. down from 750. KBBd it at 695$.

Shes a munchkin so a small bike is best to start.
I think the DS 50 has a polaris 2 stroke (Fuji)
I think I read it has an Auto Choke... and that sometimes It sticks, but can be converted to manual choke easily/cheap if it breaks?

I figure if she doesnt ride it, I can at least sell it for 5/600 and be allright

Buy the DS50. It's age and size appropriate IMO.
