Well I finally picked-up a LT80. Got a 2002 Lt 80 over the weekend paid $650. Now I have a couple questions. On the left side engine case there is a round plate with Suzuki written on it with four bolts. I want to take this plate off and paint it. What is behind this plate? Is there something going to fall out off there? Another question is the quad runs better with the choke on, wants to stall with the chock off. Guessing it needs a good carb cleaning? I was going to post a picture of the quad, but don't see a way to do it.

 

take the carb apart and clean the jets it should idle better after that.

 

that cover that says suzuki just unbolts, it's where the pull start would go if it was equipped, you will be able to see the drive belt once removed. probaby better off taking off that entire side case and maintance the clutches, but if not, just take the four bolts off, paint, and reinstall.

clean the carb!!!! take out that black boot that is slid onto the main jet, toss it out. and clean everything really well.

 

Is there a certain kind of paint to use on the plate? Was also thinking of painting the wheels black. What kind of paint would I use for them? Would a truck bedliiner paint work? It would hold up better against scrathes.

 

any paint for that cover will work, its not a high heat situation, but i used caliper paint on mine, just cuz i had it left over


as for the rims, i would def paint them, they come out great, i used krylon 2x coat paint, its way better then anything i've used before.

and here's my other son's 87 when i had it apart last year. sprayed the hubs with a silver caliper paint and rims black, made a nice contrast

 

Cool tip on the paint... I guess anything made for metal like a rust-o-leum type product would be good. The carbs on these things suck, very small and require a lot of upkeep. Other than that the little suckers rip and are bullet proof. Congrats..!

 

Have a dumb question. Going to remove the carb to clean, how does the hose for the oil injection come off on the left side? Black hose with a bass end going into the carb. That carb is not the easiest to remove. Have to find small metric wrenches. Just noticed where to spark plug is WOW thats a tight spot.

 

on my few, they just pulled off, but i wasnt worried about saving it because thats the first thing i ditch when i get an lt80

spark plug is pretty easy to get to, it just seems tight

 

I'm like damonsquad, I just yank the oil line off. The line is usually fine to use again.
If you take the seat off, look down past the front of the rear fenders to see the spark plug. The fender plastic is in the way. I cut that section off with a carpenters knife.
Get to the plug with a ratchet and extension eeeeeasy.

 

runs great now. What is that black boot for? Painted the cover black, looked good until I put it on and the paint crack around the bolts. Going to leave the wheels along, can see the paint chipping off easy.
