Could a bad CDI box cause the regulator catch on fire?

then we could double check the wiring and make sure that's correct for the quick connects when they mate up.

Sad part is I have a schematic.... I turn the key on and the wires that the fuse goes in get super hot when the regulator is connected, take the wires off the coil, and no change they still get hot until I take the regulator off.

Well, I think so... but as soon as I connect the fuse it blows, it is real sparky when I get the fuse on the other wire is it suppose to? Kinda like if you have a charger plugged in before you connect it type thing. It doesn't if it is just connected to the battery with the charger on it. I haven't really messed with this one in a year, so the battery was dead.

please double check. something is amiss if the inline fuse keeps blowing. we're getting closer to the culprit.

The battery that was dead, is that the battery you are using now?
If so, I wonder if it's causing the problem.

Yes it is the same battery... but I tried it on another atv and it worked (on the charger). Now that I think about it.... I believe the regulator burned up where the red wire is connected! I will try another battery and keep you posted!

whatever you do...do not run an atv without a battery. i don't know about your area stores....but the store i love to hate...yeah, starts with a w, has atv batteries for $40. worthy investment for your quad.

My battery holds charge, I did use the battery charger and took it off and with the fluke... 12.09. As soon as I hook the regulator to the harness the fuse blows and then the battery dies from trying to get it to turn over. I am going to get a new battery, they are like $25 online! BTW - my ground wires are reading .06 on DC does that mean they have voltage running to them?
