Default Kids 4 x 4 atv

Hello,
I am looking for any info on smaller 4 x 4 atv's, for my 11 year old son. He is an experienced rider and can ride an auto or shifter. Prefer not to buy new, was wondering what models have had 4 x 4? We live up here in AK, lots of mud, and hills, etc. Looking for 90cc or bigger & 4 wheel drive would be real nice. Most kids ride Polaris 90, harder to find the older ones up here.

Thanks!
Doug

No one is making a 4wd kids quad. Certainly not one that is size appropriate for an 11 y/o.

I think the Polaris 250 is the smallest 4x4 ATV. My 9 year old has ridden my Honda 300 in the woods and done okay with it. I wouldn't want him to risk rolling it though. It is way too heavy for his size. I'd probably just get an appropriate sized ATV, maybe a 125 and put decent tires on the back.

I had a good 2001 article cat 4 x 4, real strong reliable machine. Paid 1800 for it in 2006. It was a 250 cc

Welcome to the forums.
Seeins we're talking about a experienced rider:::
My kids first step up was to a 230 suzuki (1993 230E semi auto). They started on it at 10-11 but they were extremely expierienced.
There are plenty of them around and I consider them mighty reliable.
The Kymco Mongoose would be another fine machine for him. CVT and would fit him. Kymco's are rock solid machines!
Like scooter86 mentioned, size appropriate is the main thing.
Good luck.

Arctic Cat,Suzuki,Polaris and Yamaha. All Made a 250 4x4 years back but no longer.

The 350 4x4 Yamaha Wolverine was the lightest 4x4 ATV ever made it was even lighter then the 250s.

One of the smaller 4x4s was the Polaris Hawkeye 300. Friend's son rode one for a couple years. Big kid. He's outgrown it now and he's still only 14.

I just compared the Wolverine to my Fourtrax 300. It is 2.2 pounds lighter (485 vs 487.2)! Still not exactly a lightweight. The Arctic Cat 250 weighs 560 though and the Suzuki 250 is about the same.

Your right there really is or never was a 4x4 ATV that could be called a light weight.

My friends son is 8 years old and has his own 350 2wd Yamaha Briun/Grizzly he rides my 350 4x4 all the time.
He even takes his dads 660 Grizzly for a ride here and there.

I had been thinking that my Honda was kind of heavy. I guess not for a 4x4. I do love that machine! My son's first ATV was a Panterra (Chinese made) 90. It was a bit unique in that it's floorboards are low enough that an adult fits on it well even though it is a small size ATV. I replaced it this year with a 125cc ATV. Now I use the Panterra for putting around the neighborhood. I like it a lot for that use.

I still say for a 11 year old get a lightweight 125cc machine and put a decent set of tires on the back.
