Default Is it the starter or the starter drive (bendix)?

I took it all apart... yes I took the starter apart. The starter turns, and it turns bendix but the bendix doesn't come out enough to grab onto the thing its supposed to. I don't know if I should replace the starter or the starter drive (bendix), I am thinking the starter is ok, since it turns, and I should replace the bendix. Is there a way to find out which one is bad or if both are?

A turning starter means nothing. How fast it turns and the amount of torque it has is what determines a bad starter.Which you are not going to be able to test.
On ebay, I see the starters range from $18- $26
The Bendix is $18
That's cheap! I'd buy them both.

What starter and bendix will work on Arctic Cat 2004 90cc 4-stroke other than paying $100 and $130? Aftermarket anything, I searched online to make 100% sure that eton will fit, but haven't found really a definite answer. It appears to be the same, but I don't want to order it and it not fit. Thanks

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Arctic-Cat-ATV-Starter-NEW-Youth-90-4-Stroke-81cc-2004-2005-/290916629172?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item43bbfb7ab4&vxp=mtrI'd call to make sure it's correct plus order the bendix.

I know it has been a while, since I posted... now I bought the new starter, and back to square 1. Engine will turn, but will not start up and run - and still blowing fuses if I connect the regulator. Have great spark and compression.... which leads me to believe I need Lynn Edwards!! ~I am so confused~

Lynn hasn't been in here for a long time.
Maybe ask Jaster.

Thanks, Lynn is awesome and had so much patience with me when I first started on here.... I honestly thought this starter problem was related to the regulator burning up - obviously not, I guess its time to go back and test everything with my meter - Glad I was able to get most of that information from Lynn Edwards! I still need someone to run my measurments by?!
