Default Eton TXL-90 no start???

I have a 2000 Eton TXL-90 that has been sitting in storage since 2009. I recently decided to sell it since my son out grew it but I'm having trouble getting it to start and idle. I put fresh gas and a new battery but can only get it to run for a few seconds by squirting starting fluid into the carb. I was wondering if you might have any suggestions has to what I might try to get it to start and idle, I'm comfortable with 4 stroke engines and carbs but have not had any experience dealing with 2 strokes. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks to all,
Bill

Welcome to the forums Bill.
I'd start with taking the carb off and giving it a good cleaning.
The gas tank may need cleaned out also.
Both could have old fuel residue (yellow yuck usually).
Where you at and how much are you asking?

OK, so here is the update... Flushed out the tank, then removed the carb and float bowl it was full of crap! Gave it a good cleaning, by removing the float and needle cleaned all the orifices, removed and cleaned the the idle screw and air adjustment screw, also removed and cleaned the electric choke, sprayed all orifices with carb cleaner, reassembled and installed the carb. According to the spec sheet the air adjustment screw is set by closing it and backing it out 1 1/2 turns, it started with a little help from starting fluid but the only way I could get it to stay running was to place my hand over the carb intake and block about 90% of the air, tried adjusting the air adjustment but no luck, still had to block the intake. I then put the air cleaner back on and disconnected the electric choke it started but I had to feather the throttle to keep it running, the throttle was also very sluggish in it's response and at times would sound like it was bogging down. I then let the engine warm up and reconnected the choke, it had no effect on engine still had to feather the throttle to keep it running and when I would let off the throttle it would stall. So I'm open to suggestions as to what to try next?

I'm located near Albany NY. Was going to ask $525.00 if I can get it running ok.

I'd say there is still junk & varnish in the carb. Honestly, you'll probably never get that card cleaned well enough. Those carbs are fairly cheap, and it's usually just easier to replace it. Try ebay and good luck.

I had the same problem, check the needles. the one has 4 cross drilled holes, and one that goes straight up and down. you really need to take the time to deep clean these carbs or they don't run correctly. or like tekrsq said, buy a new one on ebay (like $30) and then you'll have a spare to tinker with.

He sold it. I actually went to buy it but he never contacted me.
oh yea...they are jets (not needles). Pilot jet (the one with the lil holes) and main jet.
