Welcome to the forums.
Others have fashioned led's on before like you're thinking.

One 10 watt led makes a pretty good headlight. I tried 2 one my polaris 90 and everything looked good. One it handled no problem no voltage drop at idle, the second pulled the voltage down at a idle but would have been fine riding and I still had the stock taillight bulb.

That is until I hit the start button and burnt both lights out. You may want to find a fuse that is just big enough to run the lights and install one on both the hot and ground to the lights.
Not sure but believe I have a minor ground problem that caused this and the battery neg used the light as another path to transfer its current to the frame.
I just had the light grounded to the batt as a convenient place while I check the voltage. Probably a bad idea in hindsight.
I"m still thinking of doing this again but was wanting to kick it around on a forum to see if I can find where I went wrong for sure. Sucks to fry those lights, although they are getting cheaper..

I know the 2 10 watt leds I added to my 660 Griz make a very noticable difference in the forward lighting. I know many guys put 10X this on the front but really thats overkill imo.
