I put the new stator in as well on the crank seal on the stator side. Everything seemed to be good. It started and idled like it should. I'm in the process of putting the fan cover back on and I have the rubber deflector. I can not remember how it goes in the shroud. I've looked online for picture but can't find anything. The Polaris parts diagram show it as horizontal. Is it really needed to help with cooling?

Rubber deflector goes to the front of the shroud around the oil pump nozzle and lines. Yes it's necessary to help seal out water and dirt. Glad the stator and seal solved the problem.
