Crazy thing about these old 2 strokes is from the factory they were filled with a sticky, thick 80/90 type gear oil but the owners manual recommended Polaris AGL fluid which is thinner. My two cents is any good gear case oil is ok to use. Polaris Agl,Amsoil,Belray or many others.https://www.google.com/search?q=atv+...mOCwgQ_AUIBygC

I put 15w40 in my yamaha 50 4 stroke when I honed the cylinder and pit new rings in and lapped the valves. Now I'm wondering if that wasn't right. I'll have to look more into it. I think.i have a partial bottle of 70w90 or whatever it was I used in my 09 can am gearboxes.

I'm at work now and just got done cleaning everything I could remove in parts washer. Air box, cvt cover, gas tank, oil tank. I was going to put my order in for what I need and figured I better see what shape the reed valves are to add if needed. I can't find them. Am I blind? I have my airbox with mini snorkel thing with filter inside here at work and the black elbow was connected directly to the carb. I didn't remove anything with reed valves and don't see it in pic still on the atv in one of the pictures I took before leaving for work. Could mine just not have it?

Listed under "airbox" Item#17 under the intake manifold.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Polaris, Suzuki & Kawasaki OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse Usually these last for years with no problems. Rarely ever had to change reed valve assemblies.

From the parts thing it shows attatched to the airbox but my airbox was connected directly to the carb.
2 strokes confuse me.
I looked at the atv again and removed the carb. I didn't realize the reeds were after the gas was added.
Luckily they looked in really good shape.

Parts break downs can confuse people at times as to where certain things are located. Usually reeds are one thing you don't have to replace on these little ones. Can't remember the last time I found any reed petals split or broken on the 50s or 90s.
