Angry flywheel problem?

Along the way of helping a friend with their polaris 90 I noticed the outside timing mark on the flywheel was not magnetic, not even a little. I had a damaged flywheel from a completely different atv & tested it's outside timing mark which also wasn't magnetic but whenever searching, people called it a magnet. It wasn't too expensive so i bought a new 1 & it was also not magnetic.

I know that the magnets can get weak over time but shouldn't it be at least somewhat magnetic to induce voltage in the pulse/trigger coil or is my thinking wrong? This is driving me crazy, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your thinking is wrong. It is the piece of steel passing close to the magnet in the trigger coil that induces a voltage in the coil. pass any piece of steel past the coil fast enough and you will get a spark.

Thank you, I knew there had to be a magnetic field somewhere for it to work correctly, i was just looking for it in the wrong place (
