Atv not going it's potential speed

I have a 2006 Polaris ATV 500 HO. I notice I can just barely get it up to 50mph on flat gravel surface. shouldnt it be able to go a little faster than that? say more like 60 mph?

Belt and clutches area sounds like the first area to look at. May be as simple as a glazed stretched belt that may be slipping. While you have the clutch cover off blow all the belt dust out in an open area. Usually they make a cloud of dust.

Yep about 57,58 mph as far as I can remember, but every machine was a little different. Had several people that bought two new ones at a time that would say one of their machines was faster than the other one..

Not sure what the tire size is...I bought it off someone privately a month ago. It only just broke 1000 miles on it so I'm guessing it's still the original tires from when it was bought. Again I'm not positive though
