Yamaha Delivers a Cannondale Replacement

I ride my speed with lots of different quads and the banshees are the only quad that is really intimidating. Its mostly the other riders skill level that I compete with and those are the guys that blow me away on the trails not their machine.

Wistech,
Being from wisconsin you know that Gust is the fastest here. The second fastest is Bill Berger who rides a 250r framed 500 suzuki. The motor in a 500 is awesome it was specificly designed for the ATV.No one else can claim that. They are a handful stock very hard to keep from wheelying.Handling was bad and weight was a problem. Are Banshees fast?Yes and they can be made faster.Stock though if you could keep the quad from going over backwards the 500 was faster.

I didn't say anything about an mx track or the back of somebody's truck. I was just refering to machine motor output. Riding dunes, fast trails, gravel roads(my favorite) are where these machines can be used and wrung out. 'Mild' is just not a word you can realistically use. If they are mild then an EX is 'dead'. Everyone has their favorites, mine is the LT500. I'm an enthusiast and not too prejudiced to admit that I'd like to have one of each. Though no matter, I have to say all the only place an EX has ever passed me is at the pump.
Ridley, I think the LTs are kinda hard to find and definitely harder to keep up. There isn't a lot of support aftermarket-wise, either. A pipe and little else. MX racing is indeed a good place for a 4 stroke. I like the Cannondales. High-strung, EFI, all the goodies...but what's gonna happen with them now?
400ex, I'm up to my ears in dummies over here, huh. There is nothing out there as fast as this LT is right now; hasn't been for 15 years. If you really had an 87, you'd know. I'm not worried about Cannondale parts. I never would be, even if I had one. I'm used to looking for Suzuki stuff, so it wouldn't be too much trouble.

Hey Cannondail27,
I watched Bill Berger race that quad in Antigo a couple of nights ago and that quad ABSOLUTLY HAULS A$$!!!!! He made everyone look stupid at that race LOL. I was hearing from people that they call it the Bill Berger Benefit, because he has never been beat or something on that order. It was just cool watching him race because he was just pissing around and everyone else was trying to beat him. He even made an $18,000 Honda 250R framed CRF450 look pitiful!!! It was really funny and really cool!!!!

Hey pushin the limit , I didnt get a chance to get up to antigo last weekend . Was it a mud slinger from the rain or did it dry up. The last time I raced there (5 years ago)it rained hard all day and was a mud rally. I loved that track . Big lazy jumps. What does Berger ride ? I have been out of the loop in racing for a couple years so forgive my ignorance.

80's quads were boring in stock form just like all the current quads are excluding the Moto / Blaze. The Gas Gas quads have what it takes, they just need to be dialed in for racing and have all of that extra Euro-spec stuff removed to save bout 30lbs.
Riddle me this Zilla fans. What is faster in a drag race, a stock 89 Zilla, a piped but otherwise stock 87 Tecate4 or a CT440 [400ex] with less than $2000 in motor mods. I know the answer. I owned all 3 at the same time.
Have we all been on 2 strokes that were modded to the hilt and dialed in? Sure. Do they resemble the stock quads they evolved from. Hardly. Stock Zillas were probably the fastest [drag race] stock quads ever produced [top speed is meaningless to me]. I'm sure there are some Raptor, DS, Banshee and now V-Force guys that have a different story but I have been on all of them except the V and I'd give it to the Zilla. Fastest stock ATV ever? 86-87 Tecate3 hands down.
The world of ATV's is all about how much $$ you have or are willing to part with in the never ending search for that last bit of performance. The Factories aren't gonna give it to you the way you want it, it's not in their nature. Even the new YFZ450 will get modded. I would just assume they offer a delete option on the shocks to save some money. I know they are adjustable and have rez's but just from the looks, who would buy them?? If I am mxing my quad, I'm running someones ZPS shocks front and back.
One last thing, these "80's quads vs. today's quad" threads always end up "80's modded quads vs. today's stock quads". It's apples and oranges. I'll leave you all with this: You could all go out and pick up a trx 250 X [not R] for $1200 dump @ $5000 in it and it would be better on an mx track than anything being produced TODAY in bone stock form. That ought to get me in some hot water.

In fact, when I raced it at the ashtabula TT race last year, my lap times would have won like 9 different classes.
Let me guess what classes:
250 C
4-Stroke C
Open C
Senior 40 +
71cc-90cc Limited 8-15
51cc-70cc Modified 6-11
Air Cooled
Womens (Besides Angie)
Pro
Ridley- Dont get all mad cause I am just messing with you.

Any 500 cc 2 stroke that puts out high 30's HP wise IS mild..
Slinger. You need to get out and race more. If your bike is the fastest for the last 15 years, your town is in a time warp.
