Interesting. Id say if I had my choice Id go with with my moto for an all day /weekend. Well I guess thats what Ive been going with for years. Hard to beat that wide long travel stock suspension and adjustable power. If the choice was a cannabal with arvins and fox shocks. then I would say Id take an r . But I have not riden a base model Cannondale in a while . I do remember they are way overpowered for the wheelbase.

Apples and oranges comparing different dyno's but lets go anyway. I have spent a ton of time and $ on the trx and I know the #'s I post are concrete. I have tested over a dozen pipes on the trx, half a dozen cams, severel different pistons, diferent cranks and rods, different heads, ignitions, air filters, airboxes, air boots, intake boots, carbs and fuel. That said I'd love to put my 450 on the dyno that would read 44.7hp with a pipe and filter. I'm sure it would push 70hp! LOL!
All TRX 450r's that I've personaly seen run on the dyno I use put out 33hp +- 1.5 hp at the rear wheels. We have run over two dozen stock trx 450's on that dyno to arrive at that #. Most of the people running Dynojets are very close to the 33hp #. Their will be some variation between dyno's and the one I use consistantly reads lower than most. I don't know what LRD used for base line hp but NO pipe and airfilter combo will get you to 44.7 hp unless it's a very, very optimistic dyno. The numbers are bogus but make for good advertising.

I agree lets see the base numbers on that dyno. Last time we were at the dyno we looked through their records for the top HP numbers for other quads and only one 450r broke 40 horse on that dyno. it had porting ,pipe, cams,HC piston. It was around 43 horse. A finely tuned Cannondale engine could get to 40 stock,42 with airbox mods.. With just a stroked crank and head porting our last 2 quads pulled 51.4 and 50.9. Thats running the stock cams ,stock valves, with the stock moto fmf pipe, stock piston shaved for the stroke. Total cost for parts was $500. And its still 448cc and one was running pump gas. $500 for almost 12 horse increase is incredible. We have even dropped the rev limiters down from 11,600 to 10,500 since the engines no longer need to rev to the moon to make power.

On a stock trx I saw from 3-5hp with slip on to full pipe. That was on my dyno not dirtwheels (+9hp with just a pipe) or a pipe manufacturers (all over the place). The new LRD is towards the higher end. The original was at the lower end. Their really aren't many pipes that are at the top end of the 3-5hp gain. The trx has a decent headpipe stock so it is tough to get "big" gains out of a pipe once the end of the stocker is uncorked. Your biggest hp % gain and best bang for your buck is a cam in combination with a good pipe. Most cammed, piped, open airbox lid trx's are in the 38-40hp range.
