Why oh why?

From what I've read they are the most complete racing quad out of the box than anyone else. Maybe that's the extra price that others would have to pay to get their quads up to the level of the stock KTM equipment.

I see orange all over the xc scene. I think they are to spendy for many recreational riders with all the quality Japanese 450s out there. They are sweet machines, but I don't think KTM is going for sales records, more like racing records.

I think that people see them as too exspensive because of the high sticker price (2010 ktm 505 sx $11,698) but when they buy there 450's (2010 yfz450r $8,499) and upgrade them they spend the same or even more then if they bought the ktm.

Unless I was going to seriously race, I think I'd buy a less expensive model and add the upgrades myself. Just something nice about the "I did that myself" factor when making something a lot faster than when you bought it.

Could be in part because they're ugly! Just kidding, but maybe for some people. I wouldn't get one based on the looks though. Plus, there's probably not many people that are able to drop $10K plus for an ATV. If you buy a less expensive 450, you can buy the mods over time.
I know MSRP on the new 450s is around the $8-8500 range, but with discounts and everything, they can usually come a lot cheaper....at least around here in 4x4 country.
