I would / have also spent my money on the YFZ450R for racing.....good price, VERY competitive machine right out of the box - I think it's more appealing to a greater number of consumers than the higher priced KTM. The suspension in stock form also seems better on the YFZR - I have talked to several KTM owners who were unhappy with their stock shocks/suspension.

Well, I for one have a lot of respect for KTM... and I respect their quad program as well.
They did a helluva job out of the gate I think.
I know a good thing when I see it.
I like the XC and SX version choices as well.
They did something nobody else did with the XC engine... SOHC but revs!!!
I'm not going to lie, I wanted a KTM XC... but here is why I didn't get one...
KTM... $10,999 pretty well equipped
KFX... $4,999
TRX... $3,999
That was my options at the time... NEW... and I could have gotten a KTM engine in a Polaris Outlaw for a pretty good price also. I have since seen Can-Ams at such prices as listed above as well...
In my case it just was not $6,000 - $7,000 better equipped than a Kawasaki or Honda. I would have gotten the Honda, but the Kawi had a better frame, better handling and REVERSE for the extra grand I paid.
Right now I have about $1,300 in tires and go fast parts.
I think it might hurt a stock KTM's feelings now for about $6,300 invested.
$4,700 left before I get to stock KTM price.
That in a nutshell is it....

I bought my brand new 2008 KFX 450 for 4,800 instead of spending 10,000 on a KTM and if I took the 5,000 I saved on buying the KFX over the KTM and put it in to mods I could have one hell of a quad that couldn't be touched by the KTM. It's just to expensive for me.

ive got a kfx700 vtwin for 7,000 and it slaps my friends ktm that he spent 11grand on i do understand that i have alot more motor but why spend so much on a smaller motor that ktm has almost maxed from factory when you can buy bigger motor that does it so much easier its the diffrence of a v8 and a 4 cylinder yea the 4cyl can do it but the v8 does it with ease. And they are both stock, i jump mine higher and farther but not cuz his cant im sure it can jump just as high and far but he is to afraid to jump or do anything sketchy with such an expensive machine

NAH i beat him in evrywhere except for the trails i beat him on the track jumps wheelies and i rape in the mud and we both run holeshots but you are 100%right on the weight and suspension but its a 700 vtwin still a way more badass quad for less money
