Any new quads from Cannondale?
#22
Cannondale could probably not give a damm what BarryManilow wants them to make. I think Cannondale wants to survive by selling some machines. Let them make a fx500 with a 13500 redline and sell it for $9000, how many people are going to spend that kind of money on such a trick quad. I think any company out there is capable of producing the best quad imaginable but you have to rememeber the buyers market. I bet Honda will sell a lot more 250ex's than Cannondale will sell fx's.

As I said before, they say they used the same engine and simply remapped the injection - doesn't sound like de-tuning to me - sounds like a stealth way of saying "we improved the fuel map so it pulls more linear from top to bottom".
As far as the rest of your comments, you're incorrect. I disagree with much of the whining about the new quads that "gary" does. Seems like the only posting he does is negative. I've posted hard facts many times in order to prove a point to him, very rarely (if ever), does he even acknowledge it or post his own info to back up his claims - I find that particularly annoying. I really doubt you'll find me "b*tching" about much of anything other than some people's attitudes. If you're personal buddy's with him, that's great. He's likely a different person in real life than he appears on these forums.

Gabe, the apology was sincere, but usally an apology is preceded by an "I accept" or "its cool" or something of that nature, where you just referred to me as being a Black Pot
Note the times in those two posts. You hadn't posted that apology by the time I wrote up my reply and posted it. I thought it was a really good gesture, but still disagree with your previous posts.
Hard hitting powerbands are cool, but if I can have the same power that's in the "powerband" over a wider range, it's all that much better & more ridable. Ever wonder why all the modern 2 strokes now include what's known as a "powervalve"?
I'd have a whole lot less problem with you if every one of your posts that I see wasn't a negative comment about new machines coming out, what's currently available, etc... We all know our machines could be better, we all wish they only weighed 200lbs, we all wish they could have more power, we all know that the govt is killing 2 strokes. Time to move on. There is some really cool stuff being made now, sure it could be better, but it's a hell of a lot better than what was available 3 short years ago. Chill out.

Your wrong on that front Gabe, I'm the same cat out on the street as I am in here and I've never met LT before. What facts? you've said that a couple times now, tell me what specifically are you talking about? Remapping the ignition to make the power more linear? Their words, "The new mapping is designed to make the new Cannibal more user friendly" user friendly, detuned for people who need user friendly-ness.Man that new High performance quad is great, the user friendly ness is awesome! come on! make it rip, thats all I'm saying.

Whatevers clever Gabe, what I say is innocently truthful and if that offends you, the we just don't like each other. No doubt what we have now is better than what we had 3 years ago, but it isn't as good as what we had 10 years ago, and that sucks.I won't lie to myself and pretend that its all good, I'll fight till the last second.I don't want a 4stroke, because I honestly don't like them.I would rather have a harder hitting powerband than a really wide or linear powerband, its more fun and makes you more aggressive. The reason they put power valves on the new 2strokes (and even old ones IE Tecate,Qracer)is to keep them from being too peaky, the opposite should be done to a 4, make it a little more peaky to feel agressive, like the YZ426.I am chilled Gabe, I always have been.

LT has shown us his true colors - he's a class individual - you must be proud to have folks like that backing you up....
What facts? you've said that a couple times now, tell me what specifically are you talking about?
All the dyno readings, links, etc in our past discussions about current production bikes. You have posted some fantasies about 250R's putting out 40HP stock, and when confronted with the facts about power output, delivery, and potential of current 4 strokes & 2 strokes - you simple ignore anc continue your argument. I'm not interested in reopening those subjects with you as you obviously are intrested in nostalgia & not facts.
Remapping the ignition to make the power more linear? Their words, "The new mapping is designed to make the new Cannibal more user friendly" user friendly, detuned for people who need user friendly-ness
Read the semantics as you will... Please tell me what parameters they will alter to take away engine power... Are they leaning the mixture? Are they taking away ignition advance? I doubt it... AGAIN, LISTEN THIS TIME - they have recently teamed with a fuel injection specialty company - odds are, they IMPROVED the ignition & fuel curve down low to develop more power down there which will lessen the feel of the hit, but likely raises average HP. If you'd ridden one, you'd know what the engine felt like & you'd likely understand what I'm talking about. I don't know this for a fact, but if you've ever tuned in a computer controlled vehicle, you'd appreciate the gains in power delivery & linearity that a few hundred hours of tuning & data analysis can do.
Maybe they should have worded it differently... You've got to remember that the marketing/advertising folks likely aren't the enthusiasts, nor engineers working on getting the bike dialed in. Do you always take what you read in ad's for gospel without thinking about what's really going on? Do you think the same folks that are dialing the bike in on a daily basis & have the most experience with it are the ones writing up the ads? The marketing folks word it to try to sell bikes, nothing more...
I don't want a 4stroke
Now there's a shocker... Better learn to deal with it - 2 strokes ARE going away - bigtime. As unfortunate as that may be.
The reason they put power valves on the new 2strokes (and even old ones IE Tecate,Qracer)is to keep them from being too peaky
The reason is more average HP (i.e. more bottom end while retaining the top). The mellowing of the peakyness is a side effect of more average HP.
the opposite should be done to a 4
Again, how many modern 4 strokes have you personally ridden? How many competitively against 2 strokes? How can you say the opposite needs to be done with a Cannondale without even spending a few moments on one?
No doubt what we have now is better than what we had 3 years ago, but it isn't as good as what we had 10 years ago
10 years ago we had a bunch of ill handling bikes and one good one. Some ran really well, but what's power without control... There's only one bike from back then that still rocks compared to what is currently available. Handling has improved on most models - HP is very close on today's top models compared to yesterday's. In some cases, more.
The 250R is NOT unbeatable - it's a great, competitive, fun to ride bike with really good handling, fairly light weight, but a few problems of it's own too. In most racing, 400EX's with similar skill level riders turn similar or better lap times (yes, I can back that up if you require). The aftermarket has addressed most of those problems in the last 13 years - go out and buy one if that's what you're looking for & quit whining about the 4 strokes if you hate them so much.
You've already wasted too much of my time... If you have anything more significant to say & I don't have to repeat myself anymore, I'll respond when I get a chance.

i really hate to get into the middle of arguements but i'm making an exception in this case. first on the matter of the cannible getting a more "user friendly" powerband is a result of cannondale teaming up with that one company. both bikes have virtually the same peak HP and speed. personally i feel cannondale should have done something to distinguish the canninble and the FX from each other more. i think they should change the cannible to the FX400 and have the current FX400 become the FX400R. now on the 2 stroke vs 4 stroke issue. i like the great four stroke low end but i also love the 2 stroke hit. i wouldn't ever own a four stroke quad unless it was over 400cc but thats just a personal preference. i don't like the way the fourstrokes feel very heavy in the air and i like the "tossable" feel of a 250 2 stroke. some people love the four strokes and you know what? thats just fine with me. i love 2 strokes. and i also accept the fact that their goin the way of the dinosaurs but until they do i'll be riding my 2 stroke till the end.

What's that suppose to mean? And why is everything a fight with Manilow? Just answer me and I will leave this alone. And don't say it's because of his opinions because we all have the right to an opinion

Yep, 2 strokes are great... I currently own 3 myself (1 ATV and 2 Bikes). I also own 2 4 stroke ATV's. Ridden & loved both for thier individual advantages all my life. Unfortunately new 2 strokes will be a thing of the past soon. It seems that there's not much we can do about it.
Just tired of Manilow's constant complaining without saddle time. Otherwise I would have never replied to this topic...

That last bout of cussing at Ridzhard was truly uncalled for. I really appreciate your last post seeming even-tempered though.
He posts 99% negative comments in the posts that I've seen.. Many of his posts contain inaccuracies when he's trying to make points - he disregards info when presented to him & counters his point. True, we all have a right to our opinion - we all have a right to challenge other's opinions & expect accurate data to back it up, as well.
