I did my first oil change tonight and discovered that I have a paper oil filter, which obviously has to be replaced. I know this has probably been discussed before (and I apologize for my short memory) but is there a replacement filter # that I can buy at an auto parts store? Should I switch to the metal screen type of filter instead? I'd probably have to get that one from my dealer.

 

My Speed has the metal screen type filter, apparently my dealer didn't realize it because I had them order me an extra and it was like $30 and came as the complete assembly with cover and all.

 

I have the metal one, obviously the advantage to it is that you can clean and reuse it. I doubt if there are paper filters available yet from anyone outside your C'dale dealer. How much does your dealer sell the paper filters for?

 

I asked my dealer about the oil filter and I also call Cannondale.

The dealer wanted 10.71 for the paper. I have the Metal one. The Paper one is from FRAM and is not for sale to the public YET.

I ordered a replacement and it was paper. Not sure if you can get them from anyone but Cannondale.

 

Go for a UNI filter. I put one on my fx and it seems to be running better with the UNI.
