what loose bolts?
#1
Hey I have a quick question. I have ridden quite a few times and even been to the car warh and power sprayed my C-dale and I always check for loose bots and nuts but I havent found any yet, not that it is a problem obviously, but I am wondering what bolts specifically you all found came loose. Maybe I am not checking the right ones, but I swear I check them all. Are you checking them for hand tightness or are you actually taking a wrench out and checking them all? And do you use blue or red locktite? And do you back the bost our a little, apply locktite and then screw in, or do you just put locktite in the nut or the thread? Thanks? I knowthere are a lot of question.

I haven't ever had any problems until today when I was FINALLY able to clean the dale (it's been raining for 3 days) I noticed that my axle nut was EXTREMELY loose. I've always checked it but I guess on my last trip to the track, it came loose. It was so loose I could turn it any direction with one finger. I'm glad I'm smart enough to check all of my bolts all the time. Dont' quit because you haven't had any come loose... Just keep on checkin them.

Guess I haven't been ridin or working on the CANNIBAL enough, cause I found several loose ones tonite! I LOST the the seat hold down bracket from the gas tank, but found the screw. One axle hub nut was finger tight. thank goodness for cotter pins! 2 plastics screws were loose. Most everything else i checked was right on. Got the PRM skid on and it looks TOUGH. You have to remove the sprocket and brake disc to get to 2 of the 8 bolts. I Replaced the coolant resevoir and 3rd chain slide(with the new material) and trimmed 3/8x2" from the back plastics by my inner calves(they were a little long on the earliest 'bulls and hurt when jumping). REmoved, cleaned, greased the A-arm bushings and front calipers.(no more squeeks!) Since the gas tank was off from looking for the seat bracket, I replaced the fuel filter. lol. Spent about 6 hours and loved it all. regular maintenance. You might want to check the clutch cable where it passed through the radiator shroud for cuts/wear. I trimmed/filed out the hole on my shroud to stop that.
I'm jonesin to ride! been 3 weeks! We're checkin out a new track Sat. that is racing quad harescrambles/flat track/mx this summer and I think 'll give it a run.
Give me that CANNIBAL RUSH!

Well i'm not a cannondale owner nor will i be anytime soon i expect. But i am well versed in the uses of locktite, and there are a few different ways to apply it depending on the bolts.
for example if you're locktiting the tapered head bolts on the sprockets or brake rotors the best way to apply is to use the red locktite and just put it on the taper of the head itself, not the threads.this will keep them secure.
and since you own a cannondale i presume most of the bolts are being threaded into aluminum.so then you might want to use a little weaker strength type of locktite and be sure not to over tighten the bolts, especailly ones that you will take off frequently.the aluminum threads will wearout over time.
on bolts that rarely ever get a wrench on put s drop of locktite right on the nd of the threads and let it work it's way down the thread as you tighten it.and bolts you plan to take off frequently put a dab on the threads right at the base of the head of the bolt.good luck

What happened to the Resevoir? How much for the PRM skid? I gotta get one of those. It's almost spring, so the "skis" won't do me much good without any snow! lol
Does the stock airfilter do a good job? Anyone replace it, tell me anything to watchout for?
Sorry so many questions guys, just sold my EX after I finally figured that thing out!
