I am under the understanding that the new and "improved" square type silencer has a different head pipe as well? This is the only thing that would make sense when dealers tell me that there is not an upgraded exhaust for the square silencer equipped Speed I have. If anyone knows anything about this or has heard of an exhaust that is avaliable now that wasn't a few weeks ago, please let me know. Thank you, JIM

Jim,

I have the square silencer, I was not aware they changed the head pipe. Did they make it a larger diameter whereas the slip ons before will not slip over the new head pipe. I am not sure I totally understand why having the square silencer would affect you not being able to get a slip on aftermarket exhaust. If this is true I am totally bummed, I was gonna pick one up this month. On a good note I heard the square silencer increased the horsepower numbers of the speed over the old round one.

I believe it's the same header pipe because a few weeks ago when I was at the local dealer, they were replacing a split old style fmf silencer with one of the new square ones and they were not replacing the entire header pipe with it. Maybe I just didn't see a new header pipe but I think it's the same. It doesn't make any sense for C'dale to have a new silencer made and also have to swap out the header pipe.

Hmmm...I was just going by what Kyle at R&S told me, but I could have misunderstood. I am pretty sure he told me that because I was ready to order the exhaust from him, then he said it wasn't out yet for the square type silencers....Kyle, if you read through the forum; could you please reply? Thank you, JIM

Briansgi is right. The square silencer was only brought about to resolve the problem of the round one that was prone to splittling when the quad backfired.

There is no new header pipe that I'm aware of. The new Cannibals that we have on the floor with the square silencers have a head pipe identical to the one used on the round muffler quads.

I'm sure this will be on a "customer-at-a-time" basis, but the two customers that we had with split mufflers received new square ones from Cannondale at no cost. Neither machine was still covered by warranty.

My reconditioned one will be here this week and was told to wait until I knew which silencer it had before I ordered a slip on. If I remember right, I was told one silencer is shorter where it connects to the headpipe then the other....

Okay, now we are back to my question. Kyle at R&S says it is different, Brian and Knowsalot says it is not different and Sandgod seems to have the same info as me...it is different?????
All I need to know is if I can order an aftermarket silencer regardless if I have the square silencer, round silencer or whatever. There seems to be confusion about this among us. Kyle has been awesome about info so far for me, I am inclined to believe him. I would call Cannondale, but the 18 year old receptionist might not know the answer either.......JIM

Yes,.....This whole thing sounds fishy now.

I know that Cannondale has a bulletin on the square silencer on it's web-site. It doesn't mention anything about fitting a particualr header.

I know that the two we installed on our customer's bike went on with no hassles whatsoever.

If something has been changed, it's just been decided in the past two weeks. Cannondale has changed the header pipes on the ones currently leaving the factory????? I'll find out tomorrow.

Keep us posted with what you find out also JIM.

we probably need a new header pipe. Cdale sells them for $920 plus $250 for installation.
