NO TAX BUYING IN YOUR OWN STATE!!!

Hello everyone,
I went to one of those demo days things today. They had a Blaze for everyone to ride, and a Cannibal and a Speed to look at. I was talking to the salesman, asking about OTD price on the Speed. He said $7,400. I thought that was reasonable, but I wasn't prepared to buy today. Ok, on the way home, I called another dealer, asked him OTD price, and he asked me if the quad was for personal or farm use. Farmers don't have to pay sales tax! So he quotes me $7150 OTD on the Speed! Take into consideration this was over the phone, so I think if you really haggled with him it could be bought for $7,000.
I own some farmable ground, do you guys think it would be legit to sign the farm use paper? Or could I get in trouble because I dont actually farm the ground?

I see that you are from Indiana, I wonder if its different in IL? Why would the dealer tell me that if it wasn't true? I mean, the list you are talking about, is it nationwide? He seemed to know alot about the Cannons, maybe he doesn't know the laws.

I know here in Ohio the laws regarding farm use are very similar. Sport ATV's cannot be classified as farm vehicles therefore are not exempt to the absence of tax. Also, a majority of insurers won't classify your Speed as farm use either. Your salesman probably is ignorant of the actual law regarding what exactly can be called farm use.

Dang it. I really thought it would work for a minute. The really crappy part is that you KNOW the farmers utility quad is gonna be used for more than just "farming". Oh well good for him, taxes sucKKK!!!

I believe here in Wi is once you licence it for the farm you canot ride it on public trails. I could be wrong on this though.
