Good luck getting a refurbished 01. I scored big, because of my reps ignorance to the truth.....

Boy, some of you guys got better deals than you even know.

I have only heard of very few with the 1000 computer installed and NEVER have heard of one that had the hydraulic clutch.

The hydraulic clutch didn't come in till the almost serial #900. Same thing with the cheaper shocks.

I haven't seen a refurb with a number over #500. A cable clutch doesn't mean that it is a refurb.

It would be very useful if one of you "refurb" guys started a post and post your serial number along with the mods.[computer, shocks, clutch]

There is ONE single thing that ALWAYS distinguishes a refurb regardless of other changes. The frame.
Look to see if the place the nerf bars slide into is solid or if it has a plug to remove when installing the bars. The refurbs[FX models] didn't have a plug. On these, you have to drill the frame or saw off the nerf bar.

I've got frame #70X, engine #107X.

Take a look at my frame in the pic I posted - if where you're talking about is where I think it is, then yes, there is a black circular plug there and the theory is blown...

Mine came with the MC1000, Ohlins, reinforced swingarm, old style plastic, manual clutch. The frame has the date 12/14/01 on some of it's stickers. My steering stem does not have brackets for the damper. I am also missing the "GP Control" and "Fuel injected" stickers on the front. I've also got the old style emblem on the nose. Any other info you'd like to know on what it does and does not have?

Personally, I'd really think the dealer screwed up when I took delevery of mine if it weren't for the fact that I have an MSO with a matching frame and engine serial number that says "REWORK CANNIBAL USED 02"

My buddy that also picked one up has frame serial number 65X and engine number 108X (not sure if he wants the exact numbers posted).

Here's where it gets interesting. He got basically a Speed with red plastic steel handlebars. Hydro clutch, MC1000, Ohlins, reinforced swingarm, brackets on the stem, new style plastic, etc. -- all that and he has a lower frame SN and engine SN within 10 of mine.

I also saw engine 1067 on a Moto. Strangely, it had a sight glass for the tranny oil. Mine is 1070 and it has the molded check screw (not the replaceable insert).

Another oddity - I've seen normal Cannibals in the 800 and 1000 range with 2000 range engines. Strangely enough, one of the 2000 range engines also had the molded transmission oil check bolt and the other had the sight glass. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the madness.

Also Patrick - I've read somewhere that C-Dale has updated the transmission gear clearances to reduce tranny noise. Mine howls quite loudly when under deceleration and heavy acceleration. Have you seen/heard any of the supposed "quiet" models?

Did we steal these things or what!?!

Wow! Good read here. Sounds like Vito got a real good deal after reading all of this. I got my Speed for about the price of a Cannibal and I was thrilled, but alas...I have the "toaster" and can't get rid of it. Someone needs to make an exhaust to replace the "toaster" so I can try my mapping software out......JIM

I read from someone on another board that tried all the maps on the stock exhaust and said they worked fine. Said the Moto map was "way too insane". You might give it a try... listen for pre-ignition, if you're not getting any and it seems to be running well, it's all good! If you do get some preignition, or it runs bad, map back to the stock Speed map & wait for an exhaust....

Those are very interesting numbers you got there on your refurb.

I'll say it again,..You got a good deal.

Every day I think that I have figured out the Cannibal X-Files..only to find one or two more glitches.

No wonder Cannondale is still dragging their heels in getting a serial number break manual to it's dealers.

Yours and your friends have the highest serial numbers of any of the Refurbs that I've seen or heard about as of yet. What's interesting is that your numbers fall AFTER some model numbers that aren't Refurbs, BUT the actual build dates are BEFORE the later number on the frames of the standard and Refurb models.....................I give up..........LOL

Patrick,

It's like Vegas give up while your still behind.LOL

I am having my motor looked at due to the continuing smoke at start-up and the oil in the air filter.

If that's the worse thing that happens in my life I got it good.

Smitty

By the way, I have a little project you might be interested in. Let me know.

I was wondering if they were "reserial'd"? That doesn't explain the holes for the nerfs though....

Anyhow, I lied on the frame, it has two stickers on the rail between the footpegs, one says 12/17/01 and the other 12/18/01. The engine says 12/13/01. The subframe and gastank say 12/18/01.

Odd.... To say the least.

BTW, were your referbs MSO'd as an '01 or '02? This one says it's a 2002 model.

This quad was also brand new in every way I could find... All the way down to no scratches on anything, nibs on the tires and the 5lbs of metal on the first oil change.

This thing has often made me wonder if the whole referb thing was a marketing ploy to get more units out there- but it sounds like there *are* some real referbs out there - and Jim went to the factory and saw some in the referb process... Who the heck knows. My quad has already made at least two sales for C-Dale and I haven't really even had it out in public much yet...

Smitty, mine does the smoke on startup thing as well... Has from day one. Really only noticible if you gas it a little... Seems to be an overly rich condition, not oil smoke - on my quad anyhow.

Keep in mind the ECM has parameters for cold start enrichement. They probably just went a bit overboard on their settings, which is why you have to be so careful not to foul a plug on cold start.
