I need to help someone with their Speed before they really mess it up

250r,
I have had a Oil burning smoke since breaking it in. It smokes bad enough I don't have to worry about the bugs. I think it's a combo of the valve seals and the piston/ring blow by problem.
I think Trinity is going to do the work. They are supposed to be sending a sleeve, cylinder, piston and rings. This has not been finalized as I have to take it back to the shop.
I was in Glamis this weekend, 105 degrees on the drive down. Glamis at 7:00PM with a 5 mile breeze was great, dunes where groomed and I only saw two other groups out there.

I understand that, but why are you "freaked out"? And, my referb was already pre-drilled and has plugs, so, as it turns out, not all referbs have the solid frame pieces.
Also, not all quads with the solid frames are referbs, just early frames, just like you said - yours was an early cannibal.
Anyhow, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the referbs - except if you paid full price for one, you could have gotten it cheaper.

Well , Refurbs were supposedly been based off of unsold and previous sold FX400 models that were sent back to Cannondale for updates about the same time that they planned to introduce the Cannibal. That's the way it's always been shown on all models that we had and ones that I have seen here on the forum......until today.
All the FX models require drilling of the frame to slide the front nerfbar support through or sawing off of that support and bolt to the frame.[which is mostly recommended]
The confusion here is that we seem to have refurbs that are running ACTUAL Cannibal frames.

Maybe some of the frames they got back were not spec'd right or something and yours is a one time case where they threw in a new frame??? I dunno, I am just piS*ed that I paid $7600 for the same thing.........hahaha, congrats usually people don't find a better deal then me. good job.

<< I've got frame #70X, engine #107X.
Personally, I'd really think the dealer screwed up when I took delevery of mine if it weren't for the fact that I have an MSO with a matching frame and engine serial number that says "REWORK CANNIBAL USED 02"
My buddy that also picked one up has frame serial number 65X and engine number 108X (not sure if he wants the exact numbers posted).
Here's where it gets interesting. He got basically a Speed with red plastic steel handlebars. Hydro clutch, MC1000, Ohlins, reinforced swingarm, brackets on the stem, new style plastic, etc. -- all that and he has a lower frame SN and engine SN within 10 of mine.
I also saw engine 1067 on a Moto. Strangely, it had a sight glass for the tranny oil. Mine is 1070 and it has the molded check screw (not the replaceable insert).
Another oddity - I've seen normal Cannibals in the 800 and 1000 range with 2000 range engines. Strangely enough, one of the 2000 range engines also had the molded transmission oil check bolt and the other had the sight glass. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the madness.
Also Patrick - I've read somewhere that C-Dale has updated the transmission gear clearances to reduce tranny noise. Mine howls quite loudly when under deceleration and heavy acceleration. Have you seen/heard any of the supposed "quiet" models?
Did we steal these things or what!?! >>
Yeah, we got one heck of a deal on our quads! Like 86atc said, I basically got a speed with steel bars. I could not tell it from new. New Holeshots, hydraulic clutch, Ohlins....all for $5,000. My engine number is 1080, and I'll check my dates tonight.
I think the original idea was to sell them to dealers as Demo units....but I think they did decide to sell them to the public to "Get their name out there".
