I need to help someone with their Speed before they really mess it up

A guy that i know just bought a new Speed from the local dealership here. He is convinced that it is going to be a great river machine by what his dealer told him. i need honesty here people, is this guy going to destroy this great quad? He wants to put pro wedges on it and run it through the sand bars and the river waters, some water can come over my friends' 400ex's fenders to give you an idea of exactly how deep it can get. Do i need to warn this guy or just let him go?!

He needs to take it back before it depriciates value even further.
The Cannondales are not engineered for use in deep water crossings. If you remove the front fenders and take a look at the filter location and how the air box is designed, you will see what I'm talking about. Not to mention the electrical system. It is not waterproof at all, and the electricals are the most vital parts on the Cannondales...and most expensive. Cannondale isn't easy going on warranty issues due to water damage like Honda and Yamaha. I former FX400 owner from Ackerman, MS can tell you that.
What dealer did he purchase his from??

He got it from the dealer here in Brookhaven. Im going to go by there some time this week and talk to these people and quiz them about the ECU's and other Cannondale specific issues and see what they have to say. I have a bad feeling that these people are ignorant on 'Dales and their problems/ specific use. the guy who bought the bike says that the dealer told him that it would great for river application. BTW , I dont really like the guy who bought the bike but I dont want him to kill this bike, I have a bad feeling that these people who are selling these bikes are not going to be good dealers. only time will tell and i will report any info that i find! Especially to you KNOWSALOT , i'll tell ppl to drive to starkville b4 they get one here ( unless their Ole Miss Fans ) J/K!

hey knowsalot...
You talk of water damage and Cdales not being waterproofed. That's got me nervous. You saying that I might short something out of screw up electrical components? you mean in deep water only or excessive splash from "up to the top of the wheels deep" steams as well? where is the airbox? under the seat? My 250s boxes are under the seats and the snorkel goes up to the gas tank underneath the tank and it's pretty good unless I go swimming.

First rule of electricity:
Water and electricity don't mix.
There are dozens of electricail connectors on the bike. Some have simple connectors, NONE that I noticed where of the WATERPROOF type.
The airbox on the Cannons are OPEN, and in between the headlights just lower. The seal is with the front plastic and the tray for the ECU. If I ride in water, I won't go in over the center line of the wheels. But that's me, and in SoCal I don't have that to worry about.

Maybe i'm just lucky. I rode the cannibal up and down a creek for 1/2 an hour a couple months ago just to see what would happen. oh, it was fun too. I had water up to the rear fenders several times and the quad didn't seem to mind at all. Yea, there are lots of connectors to short out and the air box is basically wide open so it's probly not the machine for regular water play, but hey, PIN IT and GO!
