Cannondale "HMF Slip-On" Spark Arrestor
#1
Does HMF offer a Spark Arrestor for their Cannondale pipe?? I have a couple of friends that have their pipe, but tey do not have Spark Arrestors. They say that they are forestry approved, but Silver Lake Sand Dunes verifies the existance of a Spark Arrestor screen by running some type of a stick into the pipe to see if it runs into anything. They haven't been overly strict on sould level, but the restrictor screen HAS to be there.
What can they do to get them into the Dunes??

Hey Greg,
Actually I run a spark arrestor screen on my Cannibal. I have the HMF slip-on. You just remove the allen screws from the endcap and insert the screen and then replace the bolts. It only takes a couple of minutes. The screen is available from HMF.
You can see the screen if you look into the end of the pipe and no stick will go past it unless you puncture it with the stick ofcourse. It does do the job.....no flames from the pipe here.
It mellows the sound a bit as well. it's still loud, but it gives it a deeper "throaty" sound.
Hope this helps.

Greg,
You may be onto something there. I can't honestly answer that because we only started modifying the Cannondales with HMF pipes this past December.
All the ones that I have seen since that time have an end cap that is held on the cannister with allen head screws.
Maybe someone else here has an HMF that was purchased before then and can answer your question.

HMF did change the design!
My old HMF had a spark arrestor that was coned shaped & slid into the turndown on the old pipe. My new endcap (I upgraded to a polished can too) has 3 allen head bolts & a smaller mushroom looking spark arrestor. It looks alot like the Big Gun style.
BTW, I was told some spark arrestors & quiet cores won't fit together. Mine does though.
