Jim,

I have a suggestion. Give Cannondale a call and offer to ship the cracked shaft back to them. See if they're interested. My guess is that they probably will be. They could extract a significant amount of information from looking at the shaft and testing the material. They could figure out the failure mode (torsional, fatigue, bending, etc.), whether the material was supplied to specification, etc. It could prevent this problem from happening again.

I just wanted to give all you guys an update on my shift shaft saga....lol

I got a call from the local dealer today and my parts had come in, I have a backup order through R&S Performance; was told by Kyle that Cannondale is changing the material of the shift shaft...good idea. Anyways, I asked the warranty rep about the chances of Cannondale still warrantying my shift shaft even though I am doing the work myself and guess what? He not only gave me the shift shaft on a warranty claim, but also the gaskets, seals and o-rings that I had on my order. He told me to just bring in the broken shift shaft and I could take the new parts with no charge....now that's great service! The cool thing was that he "knew" that Cannondale would back him up on doing a warranty claim on my stuff...kudos to Cannondale.........JIM

Hey,
I just wanted to give some finality to my shift shaft topic. Summed up, I got everything put back together, was able to race on Sunday and we had the biggest turnout of the season....15 quads at the start gate.
I took the holeshots in both motos, then 4th overall for the day. The Speed ran great, shifted effortlessly and I finished my first MX season with a quad in one piece and a body as well....lol.
I wasn't on my pc for the last couple days, and am glad to have missed Captain's BS...........just wanted to report to you all and remind you that Cannondale has changed the material or process in which the shift shaft is made...............JIM

Thanks for the update, and congrads on the season and a 4th at the races this past weekend. Just think the season is over and there is nothing wrong with the quad. So that means you can put more money into it to hopp it up more for next years season . Also thanks for the info on changing the material of the shifter that my come in handy later.
