Gas Gas Quad Update
#21
now i could be wrong so correct me if i am. i have heard that the U.S. is going to ban production of all 2 strokes in the near future. why would any bike company put all the money in research and developement of something you can only sell for a couple of years. then if you own one parts will be hard to get and probably very costly

Because tree huggers have taken over this country. GasGas is from Spain, so the European market is their biggest. I don't think they are all that worried about the American market since they have never been big sellers here.

I thought the same thing until I found that how the current laws on atv's are worded. It only effects the ones that are made in the USA. Overseas company's (Gas Gas and KTM) don't have to meet the current rules. That's why some of the mini conpany's prices are lower than Suzuki and the other major companys that are produced in the USA. They don't have to meet the safety regs. It's a loop hole for now. Plus Gas Gas is working with the ATVA, along with other companys to keep the 2-strokes from being banned. They might end up with major restrictions, but who knows.

The 2-stroke ban that everyone keeps talking about is only going to be for "off-road models", not "competition use only" models. As everything is now, all quads are sold as off-road models, but if you look at dirtbikes, the mx models (CR, KX, RM, YZ, and SX) are "competition use only". California already bans MX bikes made after a certain date of production from riding on public lands. Someone from Cali can give you better info as to exactly how it works. Basically, the EPA is looking at making the Cali laws the model for the national regulations. Its not so much about banning the manufacturing of 2 strokes, just preventing their use on public lands. At least that is how I understand it to be, but as always, I accept no liability if I'm wrong! Also, if you are a small company (KTM and GasGas like lt250r91 mentioned) that makes or imports less than a certain number, you do have a different set of rules to play by.

lt250r91,
I see you are from Ohio. Where is your dealer located? Do you know of any others up here that will sell the quad? I am really only about 3 hours from Ohio so its not that far anyways. That is one nice looking machine. Can't imagine buying a new 2 stroke that is not purely a dune machine. Pretty cool.

The dealer that I'm talking to is in Dover, Ohio. Don and his wife own the shop and the name of the shop is Race Ready Cycles. He sells Gas Gas and VOR Bikes and now the new quad. There are a couple dealers a little closer for me, but he was the only one to call me back and he's a super nice guy. He's going to give me a deal on the machine plus a percentage off on parts. If you are looking for a dealer closer to you go to GasGas and check out the dealer list. One warning not all the dealers in this list carry the quad and dirt bikes, some just carry the trails. So call and make sure that they have what you want. If you plan on going to talk to Don at Race Ready Cycles tell him that I (Mike) told you about the place. Hey maybe if I help him sell some of the quads I'll get a better deal . Hope that helps

New Info
I just got off the phone with the dealer.
First off the front shocks have a 10" travel.
No factory thumb throdle option, have to buy aftermarket one.
Rear rims have been changed to Beadlocks.
The dealer was not sure on the rear shock travel.
WP steering Damper is an option that you have to buy extra. (I'll get the Denton it's cheaper).
Still no offical release date.
I'm also talking with Houser Racing on long travel fronts.
I'll let everyone know if I get anymore info.

No thumb throttle may not be that big of an issue. The 250R that I just bought came with a twist throttle and I love it. I'm not sure I would want a twist for an instant response 4-stroke like a C-Dale, but with the 2 stroke when you are bouncing around a gear high and off the pipe, a twist is fine. After a few minutes to get used to it, I would have to say there is no way I'm going back to thumb (at least for the R or another 2-stroke). Did you ever try a twist on your old LT250R?
