I was at the Gncc over the weekend and the Maxxis guys were selling the Razor 2's. They have a deeper lug and are more agressive than the orginals. I talked to Chad Duvall after he won the Pro-Preduction class about them. he had a set on his quad. He said they hooked you great but were too agressive for his riding style. He said the tires grabbed too much in the corners and wanted to lift the wheels off the ground. Chad said he likes tires that allow you to have a little more power sliding ablity. He also said that adjusting his suspension a little might help the new tires out a little. I'm sure he's going to play with the suspension and get it redialed in for the razor 2's, because he talked like they had alot more forward traction than the orginals. I just wanted to let everyone know that the Razor 2's are now available. I might look into a set for the new quad for next season.

Ewww... grab more in the corners? I hate that... I wish I had some tires that would get really good forward traction like my holeshots (the tamers spin to much in the loose stuff), but that would slide good in the corners like my Tamers (the holeshots grabbed WAY to much in the corners). I was thinking about buying Holeshot MX's, but I was worried about spending that much money on tires that would make me 2-wheel so much. The regular Razr's look like they would be even worse!

Ofcourse I'm talkin about MX... I assume you're talkin about XC?

we like tires that let us slide the corners. i sure dont want something with a more agressive tread pattern. i think maxxis is going in the wrong direction. we tried holeshots on the cannibal and 2 wheeled pretty bad, the tamers worked better. the moto we run now has holeshots and they are not too bad on it but you have all the width of the moto too. on a stock width axle i think tamers are best but thats just my opinion. but i know i would never go to a more agressive tread pattern as you describe on the new razrs

See I am the exact opposite. I want a tire that gets more sidewall traction like the xct 22's. I've tried the razor (orginal's) and didn't like the way they handle, the rear-end power slides too easy. The new razor 2's were design for a more agressive tread for the mud and xc racing conditions. They have a deeper lug than the orginals. For a motocrosser that like to powerslide alot I would go with the mx holeshots or a 2 or 4 ply version of the orginal razor. The orginal razor had awesome forward traction but slid to easy for me.

any of you ever tried the Bandits?

I've got a set on my son's Mojave and they slide great in the corners but have more aggressive pattern and seem better in mud than the holeshots. I think the power sliding may be attributed to how flat the tire surface is, but the mo does have an extended axle. They are also kevlar belted and 6 ply rated.

I'm thinking about a set on my Speed for the trails.

I run the 23" bandits on the front. I've been very pleased with them. I've never tried the rears though. I like the 22" xct holeshots to much to try something else in the rear.

I wish they made a 2-ply 18" version of the Dessert Dogs. I've always wanted to try those out because I've heard some good things about them. Awesome forward traction, and slide real well, but I think they only make them in 6-ply 20 + inch versions so thats no good for us MX'ers. Ofcourse grooved Turf Tamers are almost perfect, I still wish there was just a little more forward traction there. Maybe it's just my pattern that I chose, but I think my pattern is pretty damn good. The other bad thing is that if you hit the hard pack, dry black dirt or clay type conditions, the Tamers wear EXTREMELY FAAAAST! I went to a track that was very dry black dirt (very hard ground... like concrete) and my grooved tamers were in perfect condition. When I left, after about 40 +/- laps, they were already slanted from the wear. I haven't been back there since because I couldn't afford to buy new tires so soon, but the tamers already look like they need to be flipped around. I only have about 8 practices and 3 races on them. Ofcourse, it's not a problem for me now since I prolly won't be racing again until next season .
