Could the owners check their Quads for me?
#1
All Cannondale owners,
Some of you may know I am working on a small project. What I need to know is on the tail light Harness there are two wires, RED and BLACK. It is my understanding that Red is + and Black is -. Could some of you check with a voltage meter to ensure that when you have the voltmeter Red LEAD on the Red wire and the Black LEAD on the Black wire that you are reading Positive power and not negative power. Mine is digital and when I cross the leads it shows the - sign.
If you could also list the model and year.
Thanks
Smitty

i cant check till tomorrow but all D.C. should use a black ground. A.C. uses a green ground. and that advice comes backed with 27 years as an electrician. do you have your leads in the right plug ins on your meter. if the leads are backwards then with the red on positive and black on negative you will get a minus reading

Mark,
I went back out and checked the volt meter and the black is in Common and the Red in Volts. That's correct to the best of my knowledge.
I had to make a jumper to connect the tail light to the quad. Don't want to do many of those.

thats right. if you want to double check put the red lead on the red wire and the black lead on the grab bar or frame. you should get a 12 volt reading if not do the same with the black wire. put the red lead on the black wire and black on frame or grab bar. you shouldnt get a reading

I'll try that as well. I have my EE bud coming over Sat for my one year annaversary so I'll be picking his brain. I also need the voltage at full trottle off of those leads, hopefully he can help me get this info as well.

OK smitty sorry this took so long but i went out to the shed and checked mine out. fist i got a positive 11.64 volts off the black lead and a ground off the red lead so i tore off the tank to get to the other connecter and found out that theres a light yellow lead and a black lead from the main wireing harness.the red lead from the tail light plugged into the black lead on the harness and the black lead from the tail light went to the light yellow wire this didnt look right so i checked the cannondal web site and the wiring scematic acnoleged this so i guess its right. so in conclusion the black wire into your tail light is the pos and the red wire on the tail light is the ground. i have a 2002 cannibal hope this helps

Better put a charger on that thing Armoks!!! A good battery should be throwing it up over 12 volts. Mine usually sits at about 12.50 or higher. If you get too much lower, you'll be suffering from not enough power to run the ECU.
I took my light off because one of the little tabs that holds it in the rubber thingamajigs broke off! I didn't even wreck! JUst noticed it when I was unloading the quad one day.
