Round 12 of the GNCC

Thanks, I'm tired of the dust, hopefully no more of that stuuf this year.
Jeff
Me and a couple guys were talking about that series this weekend at the GNCC. I might have to try to make it couple of the races, once the GNCC's and District stuff is done. Sounds like it would be a fun series.
Needaquad
The first shipment is just the 300cc quads. They are putting the finishing touches on the 450cc engine. The dealer thinks that Jan-Feb range is when the 450cc will be out. Not for sure though on it. It'll definitely be worth looking at. My younger brother is thinking about getting one when it is released.

Jeff and NeedAquad,
Did either of you guys make it up to the Big Dogs main jambo a couple weekends ago??? It was awesome, with well over a hundred Jeeps showing up and many of them breaking and bending stuff. I got lucky... but then again, my TJ is my daily driver and I only run 31s on it.

AlaskaYFM,
I havent made it to a Big Dogs event yet. I have always heard good things about them and their trails. Have you ever hit Paragon, we may make a trip up there next summer. I am cutting down on 4 wheeling next year, i am getting burned out. I wheeled with my club twice a month since February. I Have spent way too much $$ on my old POS jeep. Thats why I am buying a quad, trying to divert my attention and funds from the jeep. We all need to hook up and hit some 4wd trails sometime.

Yeah, I'd be down with running some trails with you guys, be it quad or Jeep. If I end up not getting that Blaze I will end up shipping my Raptor down in December so I'll have something to ride at least...
I have some Big Dogs pics on my Jeep web-page if you want to check them out.

Hey LT,
I too ran round 12, also ran 4-stroke stock same as you ...only pulled a real weak 25th. However I did not go expecting to do anything more than just completing the coarse and getting the feel back for woods racing. I have also only had my Dale for 6 weeks and have only ridden one other local mx race a few weeks ago, this was my "first real" race in about 12 years so I was happy that I made it through the 9-10 mile coarse. I physically felt great by the end of the race , so I think I will give this GNCC thing a good solid try in 03. I will probably also go to Indiana in a couple of weeks. Maybe I will get a chance to meet you. I kind of forgot that you were going and didn't think to look ya up...maybe next time.
I have to agree with you the track was dust free and actually pretty nice with the cooler temps of the day. I didn't get a good start line position as I went to the riders meeting "yea" I know...Doug told me not to go to it and that I should go pick a good starting spot, but I figured since this was my first race in a while I had better go to the briefing. I was clear down on the LH side about 3 quads in from the end. Definitely no shot at getting to that first corner from there...the angle of the dangle was all wrong. So what I did was to hesitate slightly after firing the engine and attempted a wide-out from behind on the outside....it sort of worked as when we hit the woods I was in pretty decent position. Maybe half pack or so. I was able to run OK until just after mile 5-6 I got caught in about a 15 quad nose to tail first gear only traffic jam. Well after only about 10 seconds of this I noticed a green KawaZuki 400 carrying the mail about 50 yards behind me, the problem was, is we almost came to a stop there in the jammed up section and he wasn't slowing, just as he was rounding the corner about 20'ft away I began to just raise my left hand in attempt to warn him that we weren't moving to fast and BAM!! He nailed me big time. The problem was that I was only in first gear motoring along with one hand on the handle bar and the resulting whiplash caused me to apply full throttle while still only holding with one hand. Well has most of you know that isn't cool on the mighty C-Dale and off the trail and through the woods to ....well it sure as the hell wasn't grandmas house... but I did end up off the bike and down into a small ravine. Then while getting back up out of the ravine I managed to get a grapevine that was about 3/4" in dia. wrapped around my left front A-arm. That had my quads left front about 2 foot off the ground. That vine...while only wrapped around once was cinched so tight I just could not get it unwrapped. I would have given my kids or maybe my C-Dale for a pair of pruning shears or a saw of some kind....whew. After wrestling with the vine for a good solid 10+ minutes I finally got untangled and was on my way...however completely exhausted at the moment. I then just ran a medium pace to regain my composure and so I could make it to the end. By the 3rd lap I started to feel pretty good again and focused on just feeling the C-Dale out in a race condition in the woods and was trying to stay out of trouble. Wow I was impressed with the way my Cannibal 03 handled the hills and deep water...she never missed a beat and I only stalled it once at a check point...my doing. I did however receive damage to the quad with a busted out Tail light...I know its a race quad and doesn't need it but I kind of like the full stock look. Also bent the steering stem as I shot off the trail and hit a log after the incident on the first lap with the KawaZuki 400. I pulled the stem tonight and should have the new one in tomorrow along with the tail light. I was also a little concerned with the amount of dirty water/mud that was inside the ECU tray and up near the air filter. I sort of thought this area was pretty tightly sealed.
I also thought the Cannibal felt a little big in the tight sections, I think I can ride the Z-400 a little faster in tight sections but I think once I get better acquainted with the Dale I will feel better in these areas...loved the power in the open sections though. For those of you lurking and still considering the Cannodale ...it is a great woods bike ( especially on the hills) I just haven't had much time on my quad yet. I mean it is just what I would call broke in about now and like I said, I haven't raced in a very long time at age 37. So I still highly recommend this bike to all but the wimpiest. Just remember to read the warning decals on the tank...as they really do mean something on this "hotrod"
Overall I had a blast and the family loved the spectacle as this was their first GNCC and each of my kids got Matt Smiley autograph after his win. I offered to give them (kids) my autograph too but they just laughed at me, yea right DAD.

Congrads on the finish. Sounds like you had alot of fun. I'll be at the Ironman, hopefully will meet up there. As a word of advice, buy the PRM grab bar that Doug sells and leave the Tail light off during racing, cause it's only a matter of time before someone else tags the rear of the quad. I remove mine as soon as I purchased the quad do to this reason. If you haven't bought a steering stem yet you might want to check out Houser's plus one stem w/ the anti-vibration mounts. I got one on mine and love it. I'll set you back around $300 but is well worth it. Add a set of the T2 tag bars and some bark busters.
I agree these machines are awesome in the woods just don't get carried away with the throdle. I stalled mine once during the race on a down hill fired right back up before I got to the bottom. Finished the race with about a gallon of fuel and I didn't to add any during the race.
