Pro rider or "B" rider?

I don't know how the mx does it. But in the Gncc's if you race local pro classes then you have to run the A or pro class at nationals. They have a complete rulebook on the GNCC website if anyone is interested in it. It also only works for AMA sanctioned local races. If you run an outlaw or non-AMA Sanction event then it doesn't count and you can run any class you want. The Gncc's also have some other interesting rules on local to national classes.

If you accept a payback of cash in any form (not a check made out to your dealer, that is the exception) whether AMA track or "outlaw" track, you are considered and "A" or Pro rider in the eyes of the AMA. If a rider that you know rides A at home and then "sandbags" and drops down a class (or 2!) for the nationals, it is against the rules. [As Motorider7 stated, one rider got kicked out of the AMA for one year for doing just that. He, among most of the top "b" national riders had been riding A at home, then "b" at the nationals. The whole incident with that rider, a protest was made to the ama stating what was going on, the AMA gave all the riders in question a chance to sign up in the proper class and only recieve probation, all but one did! and the one who didn't, got kicked out.]
Simply put, by AMA rules, you are to ride at the nationals the same class that you ride at home! If you ever recieve cash payout, you are an "a" rider, if you recieve a "dealer check", you are a "b" rider, if you recieve trophy ONLY, you are a "c" rider. Sandbagging is not ok to do by the rules!!

our atv racing here is a lot different than texas or other areas that get big quad turnouts. a big quad class here is 10 to 15. most tracks have 5 to 7 quads show up. that being run what you bring. cannondales, raptors, ex's suzukis, 300 ex's, blasters all run together. there are no a, b or c classes here. there is one track in this area that runs money class which gives the faster riders a chance to run against each other. i would say none are a class riders. as far as i am concened these riders are not sand bagging, they are running what is available in this area. i really dont see what the ama could do: these are non sanctioned tracks, the money paid out is cash so no proof or records are kept. my son is 15 and riding a moto, right there we are breaking ama rules but am i gonna stick him on a 90 to please ama when i know of no ama tracks within 500 miles from me. no. we have to race what is available to us. in a year when he can run nationals hell he might be ready for that by then and if he is that is what he will run. like i have always said we want to run with the fast guys but we want to be competitive too. we dont want to get smoked but also we dont want to smoke everyone else either.

lobo250r,
what class do u ride?
i race for money at all the arena races here in tennessee but i race the b class when i go to the nationals. i am no a rider but at the local races the money class is the only class i can have someone to compete with. sounds like to me you are trying to start something.

I completely agree with you markvette, but it is not very fun for the lesser skilled riders, like me, to go up against the same people that ALWAYS walk the dog on you. You eventially get kind of discouraged about racing mx when you always lose, or don't even do well.

knowsalot,
I am not trying to start anything, but if you are fast enough to race a "Pro" class in your area then you should represent your area at the nationals as an expert rider. It not anyone's fault you have no local fast riders. There should be an intermediate class for the B level riders, and a novice class for C riders. If you are a Pro then your Pro. It would be like Keith Little running Pro in TT races because he is fast, but then running A in the MX because he is not as fast enough to win. As a matter of fact I ride 250 A. The best I have finished is tenth overall, but I am not gonna run C just to better my chances. Rules are made to keep things fair not for convenience.
