Latest info on the GasGas Quad

Well I've got the machine about broke in and am looking to start getting it ready for the new season. The D-11 season start's on Dec. 22 at Honda Hills. So I started calling around and e-mail atv shops in Ohio to find out if anyone has time and is interested in making some A-arms that will narrow the front end up front 50+ to 47-48" wide. No luck so far on the aftermarket thing. So I decided to call GasGas direct (importer in Florida). I talked to someone there about my problem. Not only was he nice and remember my name and past racing info (My dealer sent them my race resume about 2 months ago. He said they are aware of the problem and are working on a set of a-arms that well change it to 48" wide and they should be available in a month or so. he told me to contact my dealer and have them order me a set. After that he asked what I thought of the quad and how it was doing compared to the old suzuki and the cannondale. He also said that White Power is not going to be doing the steering damper for the quad any more that they are looking to one similar to the WER one. He said if I wanted one of the WP ones that I should order one now and that they giving nice discount one the price since they will be no longer dealing with them. One other thing the place I bought mine off of has 300 in still waiting to be sold and they my have a 450 in within the next 3 weeks. If anyone is interested give Don a hollar.

Yes, I race the GNCC's and local Harescrambles. The width of the quads tend to range from 45"-48" pending on the quad and set-up. 48" is wide for local races, but not to bad at the GNCC's since they tend to be more open racing that tight woods like the local stuff. I would like to get it closer to the width of the cannondale (46 1/2") but I don't think it will be possible with the factory a-arms. I might be able to get it to 47-48 pending on the new a-arms. I'll have to wait and see. I was hoping I get Houser or GT Thunder to make a set that would be at or under 47" wide, but no luck for now. I'll let everyone know what ends up with and the results at Honda Hills next month as soon as I know.

my +2 a-arm 250r is 47" wide in the front and 50" in the rear. i can adjust the rear, i might try some of these cross country races with knowsalot this year. by comparison, my cannible with +3 a-arms and 3+2 off set rim is a little over 50" in the front and 50" in the rear.

Redrider,
Can your ex keep up with a cannondale? The reason I ask is because the GasGas is a 300cc 2-stroke and it's a close race until I hit 6th gear on the GasGas then it's see you later. This quad should top out anywhere from 80-85 mph for it's top speed. I would say it would take a 440 to 500cc kit in a ex to kept up. I'm not knocking the 400ex at all it's a nice quad, but it just doesn't put out 50 hp at the rear wheels and doesn't rev like a 2-stroke.
Airtime,
Sounds cool. I'd narrow that rear end and go chase Knowsalot around the track. Goodluck and have fun. Who knows you might like the harescrambles better.

Any more info on the gas gas? Is it broken in yet? Just wondering how it compares to other quads, including your speed.

Yes it is broke in now. It's up at GT Thunder getting the front end work (narrowing it to 47"). He is also going to set-up the suspension for xc racing and do a Dyno run on it. So I'll have a dyno sheet in a week or two on the quad.
As for how it compares to the speed. I feel it corners better, smoother more usable power deliverance, more top end speed. The cannondale feels like it accelerations quicker through the first 3 gears. I haven't had a chance to drag the 2 machines do to weather conditions and lack of people to ride with (because of weather my cousins are fare weather riders). I'm hoping next weekend I'll have the GasGas back so I get some more time on it before the next race (Dec. 22 @ honda Hills). If I have it back for riding next weekend CBUS660R is going to try to come over and test ride both machines so I'll have some shootout results and a second opinion on both quads and how they match up. Both machines are fun and have there strong points I feel out of the 2 the GasGas is more ready ready and closer to the moto/blaze set-up than the speed so corner/handling stuff will be better than the speed do to better suspension. The difference so far has been the power delierance of the speed. It is very smooth and controlable compare to the instant hit of the fuel injected cannondale. I'm still getting use to the twist on the GasGas (starting to like).

Very cool. I am sure most of us are interested in the dyno results as well as the drag race between your two machines. I am in need of more power but not sure what to do yet so I am especially interested. I love riding two strokes (miss my tecate bad ) but also like the power of the cannondale and it is pretty state of the art. I also wouldn't mind a CRF450 motor in a chassis but this would be a lot of $$$. Thanks for the info.

Well you might have to check out the 450 GasGas when it comes out. It'll be a fuel injected 4-stroke the should be pushing over 53-54 HP (using GasGas's numbers if mine is 50 HP). Either that or just put a 440 kit in that ex.
