Help me diagnose my problem?

all two strokes after 97 get the red sticker.....too much pollution...yeah, right, the 2 stroke ATV's and bikes are the problem.
Some of the Banshee's past 97 are getting the green sticker depending on the VIN on the engine. Supposedly, Yamaha knew this was coming, so in 97 they made a whole lotta 350 twins for the banshee.....enough to supply demand for a few odd years. That's why you'll see some 97-00 shee's with a green sticker. That's what I've been told anyway.
I thought both the speed and cannibal were green stickerable, and the moto and blaze got the red stickers, but apparently I was wrong.
I believe that according to the "law" that any "hi-performance 4 strokes" are also only getting red stickers, but I am not sure. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. I guess they figure the Blaze and Moto have hi-performance 4 strokes. Too bad they don't know that you can re-map a cannibal or speed to the moto and blaze maps!!!!!! Actually, I guess that's a good thing.

Anyone that's interested in the Green Sticker/Red Sticker issue, search for a post I wrote entitled "California Emissions and Green Sticker Program".
Here's the update on my problem...
Well I put a voltmeter on it and I'm at 12.3 volts. I just put in a brand new fuel filter on it, so that's not the prob. I put a new plug in at the same time, but possibly with all these starting problems it's not looking too good. Will the bike still start if a plug is "fouled"? Just not start as well???
I tried starting it tonight according to all your suggestions and it started on the 3rd try. By hitting the starter quickly I can get the fuel pump to run, so that's okay. I let it run for a minute or two and shut it off. I tried to start it again and it was a little more stubborn but eventually started on about the 10th try.
I'm heading out to Dumont Dunes over Thanksgiving. I'll try to put a new plug in before I leave if I get time, hopefully that'll help. (there always seems to be a million things to do just prior to a trip!).
Hopefully between the Cannibal and my dune buggy I'll keep something running throughout the weekend!

I had similar probs. when i brought my new 03 SPEED home. It didn't want to start, but after about ten tries, it would, then it would quit again, after about 30-40 secs. I eventually narrowed it down the the quick connect fittings on the gas tank. Not sure if there was a piece of dirt or plastic from when the cut the threads in the tank or what, but I fiddled with them a bit, then the problem stopped. I think it was starving for fuel.

Hitting the starter button without pulling in the clutch does absolutely nothing

54Warrior wins the prize with the right diagnosis! Unfortunately I'm already back from Dumont Dunes by the time I read it.
The bike wouldn't start at all when I got to Dumont, so I tore it apart to put a new plug in. I must not have gotten the top fuel disconnect completely connected the last time it was apart, because the top fuel line was disconnected from the gas tank, thus causing all of my problems.
After installing a new plug, connecting the gas tank, and putting all the plastic back on, it started and ran like a champ all weekend!!!
Happy Ending!
