Default Is there a flaw in the motor design?

You know yamaha graced up rappy owners with a crappy tranny in 2001 and then fixed it for year 2. I keep reading about cannonmotors taking a dump, why??? Smitty yours does not count sorry. What is going wrong on the motors. I saw where patrick posted no more free motors that cannon is going to start repairing them. So if you toast a motor did you get the same design again???

My thoughts on the motor issue,

1. It's a new motor and there are still bugs to work out. Most of these by this time have been resolved and the people that wrench on them need to be informed.

IE Volkswagon aircooled flat four. Simple motor to work on but a couple of little things kill them. Advanced ignition for one, Generator bolt MUST be torqued to propler spec, other wise it comes loose and damages other parts. Things like this must be happening to the Cannondales.

2. You don't take a Porsche to a Chevy mechanic, they don't have the training that is required. This is not a flame just a general statement.

3. Maintance from the owners, Probably the biggest issue. The old Porshce Carrera motor would fall apart if it was over reved, and not maintaned.

4. Stupid stuff - leaving the breather hose off of the Large left side case. Not cleaning the air filter.

Just my thoughts

My C-dale hasn't been broke yet, but my wallet sure as hell has been, so I just haven't ridden a lot lately. I guess I can't talk about reliability since I haven't ridden enough for anything to go wrong .

No, there is nothing wrong with the design. There have been a couple of manufacturing/assembly inconsistencies that have given a few people problems but this is not a reflection on the motor.

Several have failed around here as well. Are the timing gears really plastic?

The timing gears are metal not what kind. I heard the the oil pump gears are going to be plastic which shoudl help quite the motor noise down.

I was at a action (atv and motorcycle) 2 weeks ago, they had 5 cannon motorcycles with blown motors, they did not bring much money at all. I would not mind buying a speed to add to the fleet but at this point i do not need more headaches. i love to tinker with the quads for fun. Cannons are to exotic for me at this point. I quess this coming up year will be make or break for cannondale. Might be a good time to open a dealership.

I've had zero problems with my Cannibal, had it for 1 1/2 years, still beating all stock quads at the drags at LS!!

i havent had any problems with my motor either,my motor has been 100% reliable on the trails
my gripes were the chain slide(fixed),headlight alignment(fixed)and loose bolts(fixed)
pretty minor compared to a tranny
