Default 03 Cannibal vs. 03 Speed

I will be purchasing one of these machines this weekend. I do general trail, riding with hillclimbs, some jumping and open fire roads. If I was to get the cannibal, the stock bars would be gone it it would be remapped. Eventually, I'd get new shocks(since I reaaly dont like Ohlins too much)...other than that, is there something else I shouls consider making the Speed better?

And...as far as maintence goes....how often do you change the fuel filter and how much do they cost?
Oil changes...difficult? How often?

I'm not worried about doing the work, since I enjoy fiddling with my toys!

Thanks!

Id get the Cannibal, Speed has a different seat and different bars and from the 03 stuff it has upgraded suspension. Since you're changing that stuff anyway I'd go in to the base model and customize it the way you want.

I change the fuel filter every 5 hours, theyre cheap, I think under 2 bucks. Its a standard fram filter.

The oil I also change every 5 hours. I use redline 10w40 in the engine and lightweight shockproof tranny fluid in the tranny. Takes right at 1 qt for the engine and just under a qt for the tranny.

The first oil change will seem like it's pretty involved, after that it's pretty simple.

There is a drain at the back of the motor that is a pain to get to. It has a filter on it. I'd check it the first time to make sure it's ok, then probably every 4th oil change after that, it rarely has anything on it.

MAKE SURE you use an anti seize on the tranny drain bolt when reinstalling it. This is the only one that needs it but if you dont use it you can have a hell of a time getting it off. I thrashed mine.

That's about all I can think of, welcome to the club!

careful.....I bought a black cannibal because it looked great on the showroom floor, but after a few rides, the plastic has taken quite a beating. It's not shiny at all anymore. If I was to do it over again, I would have went with the silver plastic. I have heard it holds up much better. Black is just too hard to care for. Wouldn't change the rest of the bike for anything, though. my .02

I bought mine from them this time last year. Yea the black plastic is a problem but the plastic is pretty cheap for the silver(compared to any other quad besides the 400ex)if you want to change it. You might be able to get Brad to trade it out. Jeff is a pain sometimes down there but thier parts guy will help you out on anything. If you want, before sunday you can come up and take a test ride on mine to see how one runs with some slight mods done to it. Sun night I'm going back to work down in DC.

I'd go for the Cannibal also. As long as you are going to change shocks and steering. Good luck.
