It comes down to what you want to spend. If money is no object, and big power is what you want, a 400 stroker kit from Alba runs 1200 bucks, and gives major power across the whole rpm band. For a lot less, you can go with the big bore kits, like a 435 from 4 stroke tech, or powroll, those are just a sleeve and big piston, then you can cam it and port the head for better flow. Even just raising the compression and going to a .040 over piston can make a difference, but to get a real noticeable difference, a performance package (piston, cam, porting ) is best.

I emailed Four Stroke tech about the big bores and this is what he said:

Mike,

The best motor for you is a 435 kit then you have an over-bore to make it to a 446. We have discontinued the 500 kit due to cost. For cross-country riding, you should have a cam, valve springs, port & flow and an oil cooler. To build a motor like this here is about $2,000 give or take. If you just want to buy parts, you send your cam and crank in and we would send you back the oil cooler, cam, valve springs, big bore stroker kit for $989 (plus shipping).

I am planning to go with a cam/piston and porting package. Jakalwarrior just had his done by 4 Wheel Thunder. He likes it. Here is an Email from them...probably the better deal in my opinion at around $600:

Hi, it's a combination of porting / pipe/ piston / compression and bore size that equates to the big HP numbers you see on our dyno graphs! I've seen that Alba 400cc kit, and quite honestly, if you map their graph from Dirt Wheels onto one of our graphs, you'll see our "Little" 365cc kit makes more power!

We're located just outside Detroit. You could send the top end in for work, or if you'd like, bring the whole quad up and we'll transform it into a GNCC machine for you.

If you have any questions, feel free to fire away.

Thanks,

Eric

It's all in how much you want to spend.
Alba has a package for $430. Then you would add on for porting.

yeah dont ask a cannondal guy about intrnal engine modds, all they know how to do is remaps j/k..anyway i had a warrior that was 12-1 .20over,.450 cam, springs, ported, pipe, bla bla bla...it helped.i sold it and the guy i sold it to did one of fst bigbore stroker kits i think it was 458? anyway it wasnt worth the money he spent.theres not a huge amount of gain, you would probably be money ahead to sell it and buy one of the new 400's ect. youll never get that kind of power out it

Mascman,

The company is not goin under. Warrior..Competition...C'mon and shoot us straight. Watch the bashin' and I won't bash. I've learned walk the walk and talk the talk. Sure I've been beat by other quads, but stock for stock...never. And definatly not by a Warrior. I'm not bustin your chops here but the only thing y'all can beat a C'Dale is on reverse....Peace
